Very Ellegant With Just a Couple of Mishaps. You get the feel of the place the minute you step through the door, with it’s old world Italian charm, and the sounds of the live piano player on the baby grand. We were seated right away, and our waiter was extremely attentive. The bread was extremely fresh and soft, especially the multigrain rolls. The menus that we were handed were printed on letter paper, and they reuse them for other guests. Mine had fingerprints and stains all over it, and my wifes was the same. When the waiter went over the specials, we had to keep questioning him due to his strong accent, but we were able to get through them. For appetizers, I ordered the calamari fritti, and my wife ordered the crostoni di polenta. The polenta was excellent, but my calamari was over fried, and was cardboard. I tried to eat it, but after 2 pieces, I could not get through it, and had to send it back. The chef totally agreed that it was over cooked and sent out a new dish. For entrees, I had the Pork Chop Saltimbocca, and she had a pasta dish with crumbled sausage. Both were quite good, with the pork chops being outstanding. The portions are large, so prepare to take some home. All in all, I would give this restaurant a 77 out of 100. Just between good and very good. Maybe it was an off night, you never know.To my followers:The bar area is quite nice, and worth a visit if you arrive early for a cocktail. There were two parties going on, but they were in closed off rooms, and we could not hear any noise from them. Stick with the old standards here. The couple next to us were disappointed in their dinner off the daily specials menu. This is a small place, so make sure you have a reservation!
Amazing italian food, quite possibly the best restaurant i have ever been to.Simply if you want to have a complete italian experience this is the place to go!!!
Worst value in Morris County. Chewy scallops, watery risotto. $130.00 spent for two meals, mediocre service and worse yet walking out a littlehungry. a little advice, there is a diner on the corner, has to be a better meal.
For a date, a client, a quiet evening — this is the place. Nothing much to say except this is exactly what a fine restaurant should be — impeccable service, a menu that runs the gamut, from reliable standards to ‘What’s THAT?’, and a wine list that goes from reasonable to Donald Trump stuff. The place is expensive, not quite so much as Il Mondo Vecchio, but unlike Mondo, L’Allegria is worth every penny. There’s a piano player who knows Cole Porter backwards and forwards and actually likes requests, and the separate bar area enjoys a much appreciated, slightly less formal atmosphere. A little hint — no matter what kind of gourmet you think you are, the linguine and clam sauce will KNOCK YOU OUT! Imagine the best linguine and clam sauce in the entire world — this is better!
Love it, love it, love it. Amazing italian food–my recommendations include the bufalo mozzarella appetizer, the prosciutto and fig appetizer, and the bronzini.we have dined here so many times and have always left feeling satisfied, full and impressed!
