  Worst Restaurant Experience in the Six Years We’ve Lived Here. This was the worst restaurant experience in the six plus year’s my wife and I have lived in Montclair.We arrived at 7pm (reservation) and an employee attempted to seat us in the rear right at the first of a series of three two tops going down the middle of the aisle -probably the most unpleasant table in the place since servers, busboys, etc. would constantly be going past this table to get to every other table in the area. We immediately told your him this wasn’t acceptable with a number of other two tops available, and we wouldn’t sit there. Why this surprised him, I do not know, but he excused himself – not to check the reservation book, I assume, since he’d already checked it when we arrived, but possibly to ask the advice of a superior (?), all of which left us standing there and waiting. This was merely a harbinger of what was to come, but already our impression was not good.We were seated at another open two top next to a family of six or so. As the next few minutes went on, we ordered drinks and eventually, apps. We couldn’t help noticing that one of the family next to us had their order screwed up, and one member’s entree wasn’t served until the rest of them were basically done. This is, of course, unacceptable. Our drinks came, and we waited for our apps. And waited. And waited. At 7:35, we had still not consumed anything besides bread and alcohol. And we then began to notice that people around us who had arrived and ordered after us had received their apps. Had our waitress been doing her job, she would also have noticed. We called her over. She checked in the kitchen, and sure enough,our ticket had been ‘misfiled’ indicating that either the expeditor wasn’t doing his or her job or the line cook somehow screwed up. She told us our apps would be out in another 5 to 10 minutes. More disturbingly, she didn’t seem overly disturbed by any of this.Ten minutes later, by which time both of us were pretty much (understandably) completely pissed off, our waitress comes over to bring my wife’s app and to tell us that somehow, she dropped my app. She assured me (this is almost funny) that I wouldn’t be charged for my app whenever it happened to arrive. And she somehow thought it was acceptable to serve my wife her app and not get anyone else – the hostess? the manager? – involved at this point to defuse a situation that had grown ugly.Normally it would have been me who got up and left. But in this case, my wife, who normally errs on the side of outright charity in these situations, told the waitress we weren’t going to enable their incompetence any further. We left. Ten minutes later, we were in another restaurant on Valley Road, steps away, and we enjoyed a great meal. We will not be back to 12 West.

  Went in for Sunday Brunch on Father’s Day, everything was AMAZING! I ordered the Godiva Chocolate Pancakes which is infused with Godiva Liqueur and my boyfriend ordered the Crab Cake Benedict, which had Lumps of crab meat. Server was very attentive, I will be back there soon!
