Supporting local food. So I heard a lot about Jeffersons and wanted to try it. Let me say, I was greeted at the door. The issues started from there. I think sometimes ‘businesses’ get comfortable and don’t think about the ramifications. I walked in one of the employees was slid down into the booth to the left in his uniform eating his lunch. (Never a good sign). I then began my usual foodie ritual, ordering several different food options just to see what the restaurant can do. It took a while for the food to be put together, that’s fine. Everyone was pleasant, I ended up ordering salmon cakes, fried chicken and waffles, and 2 orders of mac and cheese. The Mac and cheese was HORRIBLE. As in cheese thrown on pasta , and microwaved with no seasonings horrible. For you to call yourself a ‘soul food’ restaurant, and to have microwaved mac and cheese is unacceptable. Mind you, the way u know its microwaved is the amount of oil at the bottom , annnnd yes there was a pool of oil. YUCK.Good news was the waffles and fried chicken were really good. VERY good chicken actually. Bad news is the chicken is wing flings instead of whole wings. (Really?) Must we take short cuts?The salmon cakes took me to a place that reminded me of my grandmother, I appreciate that very much. If you go here, its an ok local spot for food. Avoid the MAC and CHEESE at all costs and you should have an overall decent experience. I would love to nominate them for the restaurant impossible show, the space needs a serious make over. P.S. Jeffersons if you are reading this the refridgerator behind the counter shouldn’t be used as a hodge podge desk.. Calculators inside of a fridge is just silly. Get it fixed and display small deserts or pies in it. I sat at the counter for 20 mins, instead of looking at a broke calculator if I was looking at one of your deserts I may have purchased several to take home 🙂 Just a thought.
Debra. I went to the Cafe tried and hungry .Parking was easy, I was greeted by the waitress and answer . I ordered Liver with onions and gravy collards greens , mac & cheese. side order of cabbage a muffin came with the meal, Hot Tea with lemon came to $15.00 . Food was very good portions was good. Cafe was clean I would bring my family there.I look forward to returning soon to try something else.
The prices were very reasonable too :-).05 Dec, 2011The food was delicious and the staff was friendly. The owner even came out to joke around with the guest. I thought that was a nice touch. I just wish there was a waitress or waiter. I didn’t know who to tip. Other than that, it was a good experience. I really enjoyed my food :-).
Soooo Delicious!!!!. I visited Jefferson Cafe on Sunday 1/16/11 & this was about my fourth time & I must say,each & every time I,dine there the food is always on point. I had the fish & home fries & the home made biscuits & everything was excellent. The waitress was extremely friendly & very attentive & the owner was very friendly,he came over & asked how everything was. The prices are excellent. I will definitely be making another trip to Montclair next Sunday!
Woah! portion sizes!. I’ve only been there for breakfast. It was nice, very family style- litterally. I think that it’s a family that owns, cooks and serves all the food. The portion sizes were huge, so it’s a great buy.
