Let me point out firstlythatnot onlyhave I been a regular at Manny’s since it openeda couple of years ago, but I have been an ongoing patron of every restaurant that has made its home in the structure now occupied by Manny’s since 1978, as it is only a few steps away from my office (locals will lovingly remember the Pumpernickel Seed, Something Else, the Montclair Diner and the Church Street Kitchen, etc., down through the decades). Secondly, being a native New Jerseyan and a lifelong diner enthusiast, and having a (late) dad who was an executive chef, I regard myself asjust a bit jaded.Having said that, Manny’s is excellent on every front. The food is fresh, attentively andcapably prepared, and patron preferences are closely followed. The waitstaff is thoroughly professional:engaging, good-humoredand very friendly, there when you need them but not overly-solicitous or hovering.I would marry any of them in a heartbeat, genders beingsuitably aligned. In the time I’ve beendining at Manny’s I have never – not one single time – been disappointed. Everything is excellent: the omelettes are light and buttery, the lunches uniformly delightful (do not turn your nose up at the thought of meatloaf – you will be denying yourself something really wonderful if you do), their hamburgers and other sandwiches (especially the open-faced turkey sandwich bedrenched with gravy)soups (especially matzo ball soup)and on-site baked goods absolutely wonderful. I’m especially fond of their Chicken Balsamico andChicken Francese. For dessert, the carrot cake is life enhancing. All of this is to say nothing of the portions and the price, which are, respectively, unimaginably massive and extremely modest. I really recommend Manny’s highly and without hesitation!
