I hope the people who’ve written reviews so far were drunk…. The people who have written poor reviews of Next Door have had to have been drunk. The burger (the reason to go to Next Door) is not just a burger; nay, it is a revelation of flavor! The place is small, the decor is boring, and the atmosphere non-existent, but the burger, my friends, oh the burger! This is no frozen chop meat on a white bun – this is at least three different types of meat ground and blended to perfection, with extremely sharp cheddar cheese and beautiful sweet caramelized onions on a brioche bun.Fries? NO! Fries would only detract from the burger, as would a little plastic cup of cole slaw or a withered pickle spear. If you want that, then just go to any local diner. This was a masterpiece of flavor!

Lousy burger. Just to add to the overall tone here, the place was pretty bad. Big mushy burger trying to make up for in size what it lacked in taste, the white bread bun was like something out of a cheap burger joint, the half bag of chips were not even fresh, stale chips, not even any fries. The gorgonzola is a good idea, was actually the best part. And we asked for refills, got several, he could have at least told us we were being charged for each one. So add my two cents in here, don’t go for lunch for the burgers. Interestlingly I just heard that this place won the Essex County High End Burger contest at Essex Cty Mag . . ,which just shows you what they know!Go to Early Times on Pompton Ave near Willowbrook in Singac for a great burger, stay away from this pretentious joint.

Next Dud. The reviews in NJ Monthly as the best burger in Northern NJ was probably bought by the owners. The service was absolutely horrible. Slow and incompetent. The meal was cooked incorrectly and the wait time for it was unacceptable.Overpriced and pretentious menu. $12 for a hamburger served with potato chips. I could understand if they were fresh chips, but opening up a single serving size and emptying half of the bag onto a plate is inexcusable. The place is claustrophobic with no breathing room between the tables spaced 1 foot away from each other. Adding further insult, the drink prices on the menu were inflated once the check arrived. I’m assuming the waiter decided to calculate his tip into the ballooned prices. One of the most unenjoyable experiences in dining that I have ever experienced. Steer clear of Next Door in Montclair.

We went for dinner and were very pleasantly surprised despite reading subpar reviews of the place. We both ordered the specials which were delicious and creative, our dessert was decadent and the service was good. The waiter was very nice and attentive but did not hover which is great because we didn’t feel rushed. We’d definitely go back!

Poor service, poor food, unhealthy ambience..you can tell he opened this place on a shoe string… What a dissapointing experience, the servuce was absolutley deplorable, teh food all tasted like someone had a field day with the micrwave. the hangar steak was cold, like it just came out of the refrigerator, he could save himself some money and just go to the supermarket and buy the microwave type they are better quality than what the restaurant served, the bread was stale, the butter was melted, the fish had odors even after being cooked, most of us table of 8 left everything on our plate. the hostess ms. ice fish, surely does not know what she is doing, when you complain all she does is cry and tell you its not her fault and the owners are never around, or that at least what that poor excuse for a hostess tells you. the worst part of the experience is that the temperature outside the restaurant, was a nice balmy, brezzy 80’s beautiful saturday nitght, the temperature in the restaurant was above 100 degrees, very uncomfortable, the staff and ice queen said the sytstem has been broken for over three weeks, things were tight and the cost was prohibitive to repair. they offered no compensation, even when they brough tthe ice cream desserts, they were melted by the time they reached the table. you can thell they are running their business on a shoe string..thsi is definetly not a restaurant to go to in the summer, actually on monday morning, i will be contacting the town and the board of health. one patron actually had to go outside because they were suffering from heat..and guess what they did? nothing..
