Food and waitstaff are excellent, hostess and seating no so much.. We have been here three times, food is excellent, however I do not think we will be returning. We walked in and the hostesses at the front looked me up and down and gave me a look like I didn’t belong there. They proceeded to tell me that I couldn’t be seated early for my reservation blah blah blah. I was ready to leave at this point because they were treating me very poorly, but we decided to stay. Food was excellent and our waitstaff was wonderful, but I will not return to an establishment that judges people. Everyone should be treated equally and no made to feel like that.

Bland food and a $28 salad appetizer.. I went to Scala on Sunday night and was very disappointed. They have great outside seating and it was a beautiful evening, so we decided to give it a try. The service was good, though the waiter came over and told us the specials before even giving us menus, but the food was bland and uninspired. I tried the beet salad to start, which was on the specials list, and it was fair, but it was also $28. $28 for a salad is outrageous. Then I ordered the Red Snapper. It was also just fair. It had very little flavor and was egg washed battered like chicken franchise. It was served on a nice bed of wild mushrooms, but that wasn’t enough to make it any better than 2 stars. There are too many great places in Montclair. Skip this one.

Beautiful setting. Food good to very good. Horrible service. Overall, a very amateur and sophomorish top Italian wannabe in comparison to superstars like Giotto and Fascino. Could do well if they hire proper waiters and serve far fewer tables. NOT a good experience. Sorry.
