Meatmarket with a marginal menu. A few colleagues and I ate here last night while on a business trip. We found it to be quite busy, with a fun atmosphere. Seemed like cougar nite. Anyhow. We started with a few loosely rolled sushi rolls with uncle ben’s rice on the outside. They were tasty if you don’t know what they should taste like, but the fish was pretty good despite. My friends had the Kobe burgers, which they enjoyed; I opted for the lobster pasta. Bad choice. The lobster, although ample, was all claw pieces that were badly overcooked. One could assume they wanted to get rid of it. After a few good laughs and beers we went home to watch Jersey Shore and see if we recognized anyone.

Fire and oak, how bout rain and soot?. For starters, there is no sign on the front door, which I blew past and started going into the Hotel. I know, should have realized it by the name, Oak…anyway, the decor is cool, reminds me of Manhattan, but thats where the comparison ends. The cocktail waitress was anything but personable, no hello, no smile, had to ask for wine bucket, bev naps….should have been a self service bar!On to the dining room, quite cavernous, waiting for the bats to come down…..very loud, and I like loud, but this was big band in a small garage loud. The waiter couldn’t remember some of the specials, and was not able to answer alot of questions. He highly recommended the prime rib, which I ordered, wish I hadn’t (is that a word?), while cooked to perfection, the meat was so tough, I think I need my crowns readjusted. Appetizers…don’t get the spinach dip, or the chicken lollipops…the former was like frozen creamed spinach, the lollipops….looked good, but was lacking in flavor, the parmesan fries were the hit of the night! Perfectly fried, with parmesan and truffle oil…may want to just order the fries and hunker down at the bar! This is a restaurant that we will not be going back to. Poor service, unfriendly staff, low quality food, wannabe ny restaurant, and high price tag make this a -1 star review. Did like those fries though!

The staff was very accomadating…which was a plus. Unlike the bitter guy who didn’t get his way on demand we where sat at the table we requested. I guess it pays to be nice & not rude & demanding.

Never again. Several months ago we visited for the first time the new Fire and Oak in Montvale, NJ. We had a great time.the food was excellent..and the staff and service were great. This evening.June 5th..a dark.raining ..gloomily evening.we decided to brighten up our spirits by going back to the Montvale location. We arrived around 6PM. The bar seemed packed and we asked for a table. We had no reservation. The front dinning room was empty. At most it was 25% occupied. We were led to a banquet table sitting on top of another couple. I told the hostess that if we couldn’t be seated at one of the many more available secluded tables.that we would not stay. She told us that they had many reservations that evening and could not accommodate us. On our initial visit we spent $150 for 2 and were in and out within 90 minutes, thoroughly enjoying the experience. I found it fascinating that in these depressed economic times that their staff would turn someone away with the apparent availability in seating. We’ll never visit this restaurant again. And we be informing all of our friends about the poor attitude and service provided by your restaurant. Though they have lost us and approximately 50 others as potential customers, I took the time to let them know why.I actually attempted to send an email assigned to the Montvale Fire and Oak designation (from their website) and the email bounced back. They apparently need help with their IT staff as bad as with their Montvale staff.

The new spot. What an incredible place. My friends had told me about a new restaurant that had opened in Montvale called Fire and Oak. We all decided to go out one night for a girl’s night, we usually go to Houston’s in Hackensack. We decided we would try Fire and Oak and it was by far the right choice. The service was excellent, the staff was very knowledgeable about the food and it seemed as if everyone was willing to help. The food was great, the waiter recommended the tuna pizza and it was such a unique delicious treat. While I was quite pleased with my lobster pasta I must say I regret not ordering the blackened swordfish like my friend. It was the best swordfish I had ever tasted. Unfortunately I found out it is a Thursday night special, but I am sure I will be back again now that my friends and I have found the new spot.

Wow!!!. I am a resident of Montvale and have been waiting for a place like Fire and Oak to open. Located in the Courtyard Marriot Fire and Oak is a true joy of a dining experience. There are smiling faces and helpful staff. The food is excellent. The Spinach and artichoke dip is outstanding. My wife had the beet salad and I could not believe a beet could taste so good. For entrees I ordered the prime New York strip and a loaded baked potato. The steak was so tender and I have never seen a prime steak at such a reasonable price. The baked potato was by far the largest I had ever seen. My wife’s ribs were excellent the barbeque sauce had just enough of a kick. The wine selection was also excellent. We chose the Ferrari Cabernet. It was by far the best value I had ever seen on such as great cabernet. The staff, food, and wine collection was only topped by the atmosphere. Fire and Oak has the feel of a swank New York City Night Club. One feels part of an event as much as a night out to eat. I had been looking for such a place in this area and am glad to have finally found it!!!
