Splurge on the Rolls, Not the Attitude!. I have enjoyed consistently fresh sushi and hibachi at Gen, Montvale for years, but the staff doesn’t warm my heart. From in-house greetings to take-out orders, the impression is this: they’re doing you a favor.At a recent birthday celebration, my waitress carried out my son’s birthday cake, then simply walked away. I had to request a knife, and was expected to cut the cake and serve my 12 guests.Delivery orders on Sunday evenings must be placed before the manager decides he wants to wrap things up.The biggest insult to a loyal Gen customer, however, lies in comparing the menu of the Montvale location to that of the Ridgewood location. Identical items are pricier across the board in Montvale. Ridgewood has more to offer, plus a friendlier staff.Aspiring sushi chefs take note: this town is ripe for some competition!
Good stuff. The sushi was always fresh, the service was fast and the food was excellent. I’ve had various meals at Gen including sushi (amazing) and also other lunches and dinners. After 4 years of going there on and off, it is one of my favorite sushi spots.
Freshest fish in NJ. Without going into Manhattan, this is the freshest, best sushi you will have in NJ. The hibachi is pretty good too if you like that, but really the sushi is the star of the show here.
Best sushi!. This is the best sushi in Bergen County….we eat here at least twice a week for years, and have never been disappointed. The rolls are terrific – try the spicy tuna.
