Bad Experience……………..Again. Again I have to say that Porter House lives up to its reputation. It’s not about customer service or its customers and the enjoyment the customers receive from dining here. It’s about the money!!!It has been about 2.5 years since our last visit. Before that we would go once s week for burgers – a family of four. Because of bad experience it took this long to come back and we are only 1/2 mile away. We decided to buy a Living Social deal to get a four course dinner for 2 with a bottle of wine ( leave tip on full value was a recommendation). What a great deal, right? Wrong!!!!!!!! Not in this place. First, you have to make a reservation. Ok, no issue. I called. First spoke to Chris, the chef; then to someone else. We came in and the hostess explained again how it works. The person explained that we get 1 app to share($14), 2 salads ($7 each), wine ($36), main course ($29 each), 1 dessert to share. And we cannot cross cover charges for the courses. No issue again. We ordered wine, $38 – $2 extra. Ok. Btw this was the cheapest wine available (and the 1/2 bottle selection was out of stock – surprise). tuna tartar- $ 11.95. $2.05 in our favor but goes to the house. 2 Caesar salads, noting the menu and the price not told, $17.90. $3.90 to the House again. No issue. Main course – cowboy steak @ $34.95 rare to medium rare (came out medium but we did not complain as we are on a discount!) and burger @ $12 still had to pay additional $5.95. Why? It’s not across courses. Dessert, $7. The check $133.80. Discount for living social is not expected $132, but $118.80. Why? Gratuity was added automatically 20%. NOWHERE it stated that 20% is charged. Only to tip on the full amount. Is it not Your choice how much to leave? $42.53 in addition to $65 paid. $133 dinner for $107. Not a discount of any good value. Bottom line a good dinner turned into a sour taste just at because this place is about greed and more. Not about customers and having them come back. After 2.5 years of not coming back I know why. Too bad as this could have been a great neighborhood restaurant. With a different management and different customer service.
Unhappy. Went to dinner to celebrate with 8 family members, service was absolutely horrible. One side of the room seemed to get water glasses refilled all the time and we never did. We ordered appetizers and took forever to come, than the drinks we ordered also took too long. Served a beer in a beer mug and asked for 2nd beer came in small appertif glass, what the heck? We waited over an hr for our dinners, also people that came in half hr later got dinners before us??? We asked and it still took forever, had ordered wine, but dinners were served and had to say where is the bottle of wine. The most offending thing about the restaurant was the smell of cigar smoke it permeated the restaurant, the waiters smelled of smoke and I felt like the food and everything smelled, it was sickening. We used to love this place but it was horrible. Unfortunately I had purchase a brunch coupon from living social and was not looking forward to it, because of the horrible service and awful smell. Now even worse, they seemed to have booked PRIVATE parties on the days I wanted to go, and now they are booked for the next month, so I have wasted the money on buying brunch tickets! I can sit in cigar bar if I want to, tells you something, the only place available to eat at is the cigar bar! Never again!
The atmosphere is relaxing, the service rivals The Palm and the food was exquisite. Not to be missed if you are in the northern NJ area, you will not regret the visit!
