Food is good, but really….. This is in the basement of a hotel and it looks like some kind of bad old ballroom. If the food is Jamaican then they could spend some time and money to make if feel a little cozy….just a little would make a big difference

The Hibiscus is like finding pirate treasure made up of great eats. The food is excellent. You need to have a sense of adventure and be open minded for trying new things. I had the hibiscus salad (orange pincapple vinaigrette makes a wonderful tropical starter) and the Hibiscus sampler (The two saucse are a amazing) The bread sticks are like donuts and dipping them in the jerk sauce, You receive a taste explosion! I had the jerk chicken with rice & peas sweet plantains and vegetables. It was hearty and tasted great. I tried the Hibiscus Sorrel splash drink. It had a nice tropical taste it just needed lite rum to make it a boat drink. Jamaican Rum Flavored Bread pudding was the flavorful end to a most extraordinary Caribbean meal. The staff is very attentive and explained each dish to us. They handled a party of five very efficiently. Via Robby’s Coconut Telegraph, 25 Words or Less!

Great Jazz, Good Food in Small Portions. Hibiscus is located in the Morristown Inn. It’s a cozy dining area sporting an informal semi-Caribbean motif. They book themselves as a jazz venue, and that’s really why we were there. Last night featured a great pianist playing a solo act.We were greeted by the restaurant manager, a friendly woman who let us have our pick of tables before the show began. She was very helpful in making suggestions and even offered to change the preparation when the offering didn’t suit our liking. Service continued in a very informal manner. Our waitress in training was very attentive in filling water glasses, but sometime after our entrees were served everyone seemed to disappear. This may have been in deference to the show, because they did return for coffee and dessert.Hibiscus does not have a liquor license, but you can buy wine by the bottle. They have a reasonably priced selection from a local New Jersey winery. The food was very good, but I thought overpriced for the small portions served. By small, I really mean stingy. The Mozzarella and Tomato salad, at $8, boasted 3 small slices of tomato and 3 paper thin pieces of cheese. I was impressed with the skill it must have taken to shave the mozzarella so thin. The Jerk Shrimp Skewers ($9) appetizer was excellent, but consisted of a meager 3 medium-sized shrimp, each on its own stick. I ordered the Jerk Shrimp Salad as an entre, which our manager told me would be too small to satisfy, but offered me the Hibiscus Salad with shrimp. 4 large-sized (read, not jumbo) were excellently prepared, but the COSTCO mixed salad greens and 2 sections of mandarin orange, no pineapple, almonds, or coconut as described in the menu, left the salad disappointing. The Shrimp and Linguini in garlic sauce was excellent, as were the Hibiscus Oxtails.Desserts were excellent. The bread pudding is superb; A rum-soaked concoction with raspberry sauce and icing, and the chocolate confusion is rich enough to satisfy any chocoholic. Coffee had an aftertaste.I haven’t voted that I like or don’t like it. Tastes good, Not filling. And, for the record, Don’t know how they came up entrees between $10-$15. Dinner for 4 came out over $200.

I am a Jamaican that has been to this restaurant more than once and I enjoyed the jamaican food that they had to offer. I was actually searching on google to see if I could find the website for the restaurant so I could give a friend when I noticed there was a review in the listing and decided to check it out. I was surprised to say the least. I did not find the food salty, if I did there’s no way in hell I would have put up with that. I love their curry goat and curry chicken, that’s pretty much what I usually order sometimes I may order rasta pasta but that’s only when I feel for it, I’m not much of a pasta person. Their jamaican dishes are delicious and authentic (although I do think they need to serve more rice), the service is always great and I haven’t had a bad experience yet.And to the other reviewer, I’m not a family member nor do I work for them and I’m not someone who’s only been there once and I like it so your little statement is null and void but it did get me to sign up to write this so good job.
