Bongo breakfast. My husband and I had breakfast twice here this summer. Both times food was wonderful. We would definitely eat there again.
Jack. As an Ocean City local, I like to support local businesses. We tried Bongo’s the other day and left very disappointed. My wife and I went in where two other tables were being served. We requested moving another table next to ours to accommadate all four couples. Very disappointed to hear the staff refuse our request. The owner came out and explained, rudely, that she would not accommadate our request as it may block service. Our second mistake was staying. We sat at two 4-tops. My wife had ribs which were not only tough, but cold. My sandwich was served on what felt like stale bread. With the way the owner first spoke with us I was not going to return our menu items. We left and will never return.
Bathrobe Really?. Our visit started out with a delightful young woman (Kelly V.) as our server who was extremely accommodating and attentive. Our dinners were fantastic…well plated and delicious! We were waiting for our dessert, actually discussing how good our food was and had decided to come back again in the morning for breakfast on our way home, when a man in a bathrobe stormed through the front door and let the two young girls have an earful. The restaurant was virtually empty and and ripped into them about not answering the phone….wickedly unprofessional. I felt horrible for these two young girls. I mean really he was in his bathrobe…..ugh. Now I know what all the reviews have been about. It’s sad….because the menu is great. Owner needs to check himself before he wrecks a good thing.
Great dinner and service. My daughter and I along with my 3 Year old grandson stopped for dinner this past Sunday night. We sat outside, had great service and great food. I had a beer batter shrimp special and sweet potato fries, she had a fried cod platter. Both were very generous portions and the seafood was fresh and tasty. Our little guy had a child’s pizza which was also very good. We were pleased to find this place end hope to make it back one more time before our vacation is over.
The owner is horrifically rude! As a local, it’s mind boggling that a business owner can be so unabashedly nasty. It looks so fun inside, but it’s not kid friendly. Even though the food is good, I will never ever give them my business again.
They don’t deserve your business!. Like others who live nearby, we were also excited by the prospect of a good restaurant at the always- failing location of 10 th and bay. We went for breakfast twice. The food was actually pretty good both times, and served very quickly by a pleasant young waitress. However, I will never return to Bongo because of the rude attitudes of the owners. They simply do not deserve our business. On the first visit during a heatwave, we were told we had to wait outside in 95 degrees despite the fact that the place was half empty. After half an hour, we went back in and were told by the staff that the Chef (Buddy, the owner) told them they could not seat anybody because the kitchen was backed up. But the food was pretty good so we tried again. On the next visit, we were exposed to the other owner, Patty. She was rude and abrasive. She asked if we wanted thr curtains closed, we said we are fine and the she demanded that we allow her to close the curtains to block the sun, rudely barking at us to get out of our table and snapping at my husband when he tried to help. Later, a customer was told it was a 30 minute wait for a table by a server. He then asked for a menu to order some take out breakfast sandwiches. Patty came out and told the man he wasn’t getting them before 45 minutes even if it’s take out because they take people in order that they come ( no, this makes no sense, like they wouldn’t start his food for 30 minutes) and told him to go down to Wawa as they have breakfast sandwiches right at the counter. Others on the island seem to have the same experience. A family member was barked at by Buddy to stop letting out the air conditioning- she was trying to get in the door holding a baby and wasn’t moving fast enough for him. They then turned around and left, as Buddy was soaked and dripping with sweat- not exactly who you want cooking your food. Needless to say, we will not be returning. I would not believe any review that referred to Patty as warm or friendly, and by the way, they don’t serve dinner regardless of what the lettering on the window says.
Awful service! We were very enthusiastic to try this restaurant (as we are OC locals) but it really disappointed us. We walked in to a half empty restaurant and were told to leave and wait outside in the heat when we told the hostess we had a party of three. She came out about five minutes later to tell us it would be a 20 minute wait. Her rude tone alone was enough to make us leave for another breakfast spot. We frequent most places in town and this was the first time poor service has caused us to leave before even trying a new place! We won’t be going back.
