I have went to Szechuan Garden every summer for the past 8 years. Now, I do not go anymore because of 4 big reasons. The food is horrible, the staff seems to be unhappy all the time, and lastly, the menu has changed drastically.
Good Lunch Meal/Specials. The lunch specials are good and reasonably priced. The fare is pretty standard and if you are in the mood for Chinease, this is a great spot in O.C to stop in for lunch (it is near the Chatterbox so it is easy to walk to from most local downtown hotels). I agree, the service is NOT great…they never checked on us or refilled our drinks/waters…BUT…all in all, not bad for a quick lunch bite. Pretty clean and good value.
Bad experience. We had been to this place for lunch with great expectations. The reviews in Yelp was 4.5/5 and this misled us completely. Unfortunately, the servers in this place really shocked us when they took our orders completely wrong and gave a bitter feeling of even sitting there. We are staunch vegetarians and had ordered for a lunch combo Vegetarian low mein + white rice. To our shock they had served us the order with Chicken. We asked them to replace the order, so that they can bring in the vegetarian platter. They removed the chicken fried rice and to the same plate added white rice and served us. I was totally taken aback. So I asked them to cancel the order and placed an order for Kung pao tofu. I told them very clearly, no meat, no eggs, purely vegetarian with only veggies and tofu. And surpriseeeeeeeeeee, you know what I am served with – Chicken Kung Pao. I am not writing this review out of any frustration. But as a fellow being, I want all vegetarians/vegans who visit this place to be very careful and specific on the orders they place, probably reiterate their orders twice to the servers, so that they do not get disappointed like how I was at the end.
Good Chinese food at reasonable prices. We visit them each time we stay in OC.
Good Food. My wife and I have eaten here many times and its always dependable and one place we go when ever we are staying down the shore, very tasty food and good service.
Great Chinese. This place always has great Chinese and great service. Good crispy General Tso’s, great dumplings, great soups. It has reasonable prices too. Definitely the place in Oc for Chinese…
The BEST Chinese food I’ve ever had. I’ve eaten here many times and don’t miss a chance when in town. Delivery is fast and in house service great. Very vegitarian friendly menu too.
