great food, excellent service and changing menu. it is fresh, artistic but not too much. it is hard to get a last minute reservation, no bar to sit, and the dcor is a little stuffy, but the food is definitely worth it! the byob is also a great positive.
Awesome Top 25 Restaurant!. It took me over 20 years but I finally made it to Cafe Panache & it was well worth the wait! It is entirely deserving of it’s status of top 25 restaurants in NJ. Chef Kohler is a true artist in the kitchen and his wife did an amazing job in designing the front room addition. I strongly suggest you request the front room when making reservations. The design, colors, and textures of materials used are all in perfect harmony. All of the windows add a light and airiness to the room. The food was incredible. The service was impeccable. The Filet Mignon ravioli with truffle butter appetizer was sublime and worth the trip alone! We also had the very fresh tuna tartar special with seaweed and pickled radishes. For entrees my wife had the amazing panko crusted soft shell crab special & I had the awesome Lobster in a light vanilla sauce. I have added this restaurant to my regular dining rotation and cannot wait until my next reservation.
Don’t let the negative reviews dissuade you. I’m an ex new Yorker and there ain’t much around here that is up to the standards of Manhattan, Cafe Panache is one. Very good meal, adequate service and frightening low prices when you consider other locations.
Disappointed with this place a number of times been there enough times that the host should recognize me by now last time we were there the owners wwife left with one of our bottles of wine they are also not very accomodating when I tried to make a reservation with elderly people attending
Superb food, service. Hard to get reservation on Saturday, but well worth it; reserve other nights. Filet mignon-stuffed ravioli w/ truffled butter / veal stock sauce was superb.
Cafe Panache, Dec 17, 2009. I had such high hopes for Cafe Panache. Having heard glowing reports about it for years, I was excited to take a good friend to dinner here for her birthday last evening. We were greeted warmly and seated. Menus were presented and we both ordered soup for a first course. Within 1 minute of ordering, our soup arrived (I had not even had a sip of wine yet). I’m all for efficient service, but this was ridiculous. I had the Creamless Butternut Squash Soup with Roasted Chestnuts (delicious). For my main course, I had the Short Ribs (very good, but an extremely small portion for $30). My friend had so looked forward to ordering the Roast Duck that was on the menu, but it was not really roast duck, but a roasted duck leg and a sauteed duck breast. Rather than be disappointed, she opted for the salmon. While it was good, it was not outstanding. But what disappointed me most of all, was the sort of amateurish handling of leftovers (food and wine). I opted to take home a portion of my short ribs, which the waiter packed for me in a foil container with a cardboard top that looked like it came from your corner pizza shop. No bag to put the container in – just the container. When the waiter asked if we’d like to take the remaining wine home, he stuck a cork in it and that was it. When I asked for a bag, he said they had none. If I had known bags were in such short supply at this establishment, I would have kept the bag I brought the wine in. I then asked the man at the reservation desk about a bag, and at least he made an effort to look around for one. He said they always throw out the bags when people bring wine. So there I was leaving the restaurant with my half-empty bottle of wine and my pizza shop leftovers. Unfortunately, the food wasn’t good enough for me to overlook the service issues. Not at those prices.
Awesome. One of my favortie restaurants. Great food and very friendly atmosphere. Make sure you make a reservation.
