What a wonderful place! The food is fresh healthy and absolutely delicious. Very welcoming and friendly ambience. Better food than you will find at many upscale restaurants.
Delicious!. Have been to Porto Alegre several times and am always amazed at how fresh the ingredients are and how warm and welcoming the restaurant is. The Brazilian cheese bread is to die for – exceptional! Most Americans haven’t experienced real cheese bread – try it! The salads are delicious, fresh ingredients and wonderfully prepared. The atmosphere is cozy. So much better than most of the restaurants in our area. Portions are perfect, enough to fil you up but yet not quite so much that you can’t think of dessert. Passion fruit mousse was out of this world! Haven’t had it for 25 years – since my last visit to Latin America! Thank you Porto Alegre!
Porto Alegra Cafe. We were so delighted to find a resterant in our town oosing with warmth, character and flavor. It’s been like Waiting for Grandma to finally come home. A resterant that stands out from the rest. A resterant that calls you home every time you pass by. A resterant you want to invite your friends, your family and even your lover. The food is dramatic, traditional and flavorful thrown in with a few surprises, I love the open kitchen where you can say hello to the chef’s, every piece of furniture and art work has an energy of its own. A real satisfaction, food cooked with love. The coffee to die for, and I assure you you come back for the chocolate cake. Thank you so much for moving in to my town , we have been waiting for you… A resterant above the rest.
This restaurant is one of my favorites! The food is incredible, as are the desserts! My friends and I come here all the time! The service is great!
Great find!. After hearing the Capitol Steps at Ramapo College late yesterday afternoon, we (my wife, our 17-yr-old son, and I) decided to give Porto Alegre a try for an early dinner based on just a few favorable references on web sites. The food was great and the staff was friendly and helpful. We had excellent yucca fries as an appetizer (with a very garlicky aioli dip that our waitress offered), plus little rolls of bread made with cheese. For a main course I had massa, which is linguine with beans, greens, sausage, and garlic. My wife had one of the salads with salmon on top, and our son had the salmon entree. My son and I had horchata (sp.?) to drink, which was also very pleasant. The three desserts we ordered were also really nice: pudim (I presume that’s a Portuguese, or at least Brazilian Portuguese, word derived from pudding) that’s very much like flan but a bit denser; bread pudim with chocolate which was heavenly; and a passionfruit mousse — my favorite — that wonderfully balanced the tartness of passionfruit with sweetness. All of this came to $85 plus tax and tip. Definitely a place to come back to when we’re in northern Bergen County!
