Had lunch there. Burger was ok. The place smells horribly and couldn’t finish it because I needed fresh air. On top of that horror I left my purse on the back of the chair and called later that day and was told it wasn’t found. I dropped in and found it on top of the cash register. Unfortunately all the cash was removed! Not a nice place or group of patrons and/or staff. Consider yourself warned. ..stay far away from this stinky place full of stinkers.

Comfortable simplicity in a too busy world. You walk into smith’s tavern and it’s like stepping back in time to a year where bluetooth wifi and bloggers(thank god) were only a dim dream in a few malevolent heads. every bar stool and seat in the restaurant will fit you like a glove as soon as you sit down. whether its nachos burgers bar-pies to french onion soup every dish is made to order and whether you’re sitting at the comfortably twilight lighting of the cozy sit-down dining area or getting up to a little helling with the locals at the bar the tavern is a sea of relative calm in an overstimulated world othe new millenium. they even have an analog cash register behind the bar. tradition and friendly service has been simulated to the point of being ridiculous in this brave new world of ours but time honored traditions and Good old American tenacity have made Smith’s tavern a staple of the rockaway borough community. If you give this little piece of history half a chance you’ll have a night to remember. a car dealership that was bought out and refurbished in the 1930’s Smiths has made it a tradition to provide its customers with attentive wait staff, and a timeless tradition of excellence that can be imitated and simulated all the way to hell and back but never carbon-copied, Smith’s Tavern has more than 70 years of quality comfort food old world charm and pervading american quality that can only be found in a restaurant that has been owned and operated by a dynasty commited to cozy atmosphere quality food and unparalleled service
