Obco’s in the 60’s & 70’s….Family. I grew up in East Dover and have great memories of the simpler times back then in quiet, tranquil, innocent TR. My mom Valeria worked at Obco’s for many years for George. I remember going to camp with the original owners daughter Dorothy (If you see this, I am Diane). I was back there once about 5 years ago and definitely made a stop there.
Awesome donuts! I lived in Brick for so many years and only heard about this place but they were always closed by the afternoon when I was in the area. I heard they bake just enough and when they run out around noon they close. I heard there were lines to get donuts in the morning. I’ve always loved a good donut and since Dunkin stinks anymore and I had some Krispy Kreme on a recent trip to Florida I decided to try on my way down to the Popcorn Park zoo last weekend. Wow! You must try. They are amazing. I can’t wait to go again when they come out hot. I love the glazed, jelly ones, and the crispy cake ones with the thick strawberry or chocolate homemade icing. They are really worth the trip!
A man of my caliber demands an exceptional and exquisite donut. I have had my minions travel far and wide searching for the best blend of dough, powder and that special indeterminable quality. WELL my bumbling assistant Gary Goyle vows that no other donut makes my dark heart as warm as THE LITTLE RED DONUT SHOP (Don’t know what all you Bennies are saying calling it Obco’s)ANYWAY what I am trying to say is that if you go to the Little Red Donut Shop you will be pleased. MAYBE. I can’t speak to the service of the LITTLE RED DONUT SHOP but Gary usually takes forever to come back to Castle Hatred from the LITTLE RED DONUT SHOP but that’s because he’s a FOOL.On that note, I must find my fool. He better not bring home any Apple Fritters today.
Gary goyle. I only know this as the little red donut shop!!!! master frank enjoys the lemon donuts very very much. he is truly a good master…but not very forgiving. also i have never tried an apple fritter.
I drive 2 hours when I need a fix!. My family used to take me to Obco’s Donuts since I was a little girl back in the 1960’s, and now it’s a tradition with my own kids. My younger son loves the glazed donuts…but the REAL reason to go to Obco’s is for their cinnamon knots (some people call them cruellers). They aren’t greasy, the donut itself has a wonderful flavor & texture, but the crunch is what keeps me going back year after year!!! OK…tomorrow morning I will be making a road trip for a bag of deep-fried bliss!
OBCO Doughnuts – The best anywhere. When I was a kid living in Toms River in the 1960’s and early 1970’s, then Mrs. OB’s donuts were a weekly Sunday treat – I remember standing on my tip-toes peeking over the windowsill watching a man drop rings of donut batter into a pot. Since then I’ve lived in several states and Obco donuts are STILL the best anywhere. Never greasy, never too sweet, great flavor. Even better than the Amish donuts I can get in my area. Now I wait for a vist to the beach and as I pass through Toms River I always stop at Obco for a supply – and bring home my cache. I hope they remain open for another 55 years!
Just Plain Good. That’s all there is to it. They’re the best. If they could just stay open longer hours, i could pitch a tent there!
