Great 1980’s pitstop. Wow i have not been to johnny’s in nearly 30 years and i can still remember how great those dogs were then with the onion and pickle across top.A nice snap in every bite and great taste.Hopefully i will get the chance to re-visit them this year to re-live some childhood memories:)

Have eaten dogs here once in a while since the early ’90s, but it has been in its current form since the late 60s/early 70s. Always consistent, always tasty. The frosted mugs are fun, and nicely chill the beverages. Birch beer is excellent, as is the buttermilk and cider (seasonal). We’re not really dry eaters, but they are tasty and have a nice crispness. The hot dogs are tasty, and the pickle and onions make it for a unique taste. Always a treat.

Dislike. The serves was rude and the cleanliness of the way the food was prepared was very questionable. From what I saw. They don’t take credit cards and when I asked the owner why, she yelled at me and point out that they charge her money for that. Customer conveyances is not their concern.

I love hot dogs! Hot dog Johnnies was the worst experience I’ve ever had. I ordered 4 hot dogs with mustard, pickle & onion. I was given 4 hot dogs with watery ketchup, mustard & pickles. I went up to the counter & told them that wasn’t what I ordered. The ugly, fat, mean lunchlady looking old woman told me I ordered wrong because it they wrote it down correctly. Then, the angry lunchlady grabbed the hot dog with her dirty hands & gave it back to me & told me to eat it because it’s what I ordered. Wow! Then, some young man asked where the bathroom was & the mean woman yelled there is no bathroom today. The septic backed up & bathrooms are a mess. Real nice. I will never go back to Hot Dog Johnnies. I will stick to the best, Tobys.

Great place!. When I was a kid my dad would take the family on Sunday drives and one of our favorite stops was HDJ’s. We loved the dogs and fries and the fact that we could sit on the grass, like having a picnic. Years later my husband and I would take our kids there as often as possible. They preferred sitting at the outdoor tables. We now live in the Poconos and whenever we get the chance we’ll take a ride there and my best friend and I also go as often as possible (she usually buys a gallon of buttermilk to take home). The food and the atmosphere are wonderful. Very reasonable prices too. It’s not a fancy place, by any means, but it’s beautiful in it’s old fashioned simplicity and its surroundings. The staff is always smiling and friendly and believe it or not the patrons are the same way. Expect to wait in line, especially in the summer, but it’s part of the experience and you won’t find a crabby, unpleasant, impatient patron anywhere. So take a ride up or down Rt. 46 in NJ and enjoy a pleasant and fun experience.

YUM!. My husband and I moved to The Pocono’s recently from Seattle for his job. Here’s the thing, we don’t have random hot dog stands on the side of the road out where we are from… so, on a tip from one of his co-workers, we took a trip out to Buttzville (what?!?) to get a hot dog.Glad we did. Maybe we were so happy about it because, like I said, we don’t have places like this where we are from.2 hot dogs, a pickle, an order of fries, a birch beer and a chocolate shake… $10 and some change. We should have got 2 orders of fries, but who were we to know. Hot dogs, awesome. Fries, nice and crunchy. Pickle, perfect. Birch beer- I’m not the birch beer drinker, I prefer root beer, but the hubby said it was good. Chocolate shake- YUMMY. He wanted to get the birch beer in the frosty mug, but we wanted to sit on the grass by the river, so no go, maybe next time.

I just love HDJ’s !!!! It’s a great place that has been around forever. The menu is simple hot dogs, fries, ice cream and drinks. There is one thing about this place you have to have at least once in your life it’s the buttermilk just get ready for the taste if you haven’t had any before. Great place to just hang out and watch the world go by as you have a hot dog with pickle and fries.
