Mexican soul food. I finally ate lunch at el modelo and discovered the heart and soul of New Mexico. The best Mexican food in Albuquerque hands down
One Dozen Tamales… Mmmmm. Red chili
Quality. Seems that the quality is going down. just like most places, the busier they get the more they scrimp on quality. the meat in their loved tamales is pretty tough anf chewy. it is like wet jerkry. it used to be cooked slow on a lower temterature but as every good cook knows, if you raise the tempersture and or shorten the time the meat is tougher. what other explaination could there be. i have seen it at Rudys BBQ, and Quarters BBQ. tougher meat equals lower quality.
We live in Texas and were in Albuquerque for my nephew’s wedding so we made our usual stop at El Modelo to get tamales to bring to Texas with us. You cannot get decent tamales in Texas so We usually get at least two dozen to share with our son. We try yo make it home to Albuquerque at least twice a year and always bring back tamales. Our other favorite is the green bean tacos. I also just noticed on their web site that we will soon be able to order them on line and have them delivered to Texas. Yea for us.
Loved this Place, Even as a Child. This place is amazing. The food is super delicious, and I have yet to find another place like it! The only thing I don’t like is the long lines of people…the place is always packed! My parents would bring food from El Modelo home when I was a child, and I’d get super excited when they did. Now I’m a grown adult and will treat me and my family to this great food when we can.
Fantastic!. You won’t be disappointed. Just don’t go if you’re trying to stick to a diet, lose weight, or attempting to reduce your cholesterol levels. Otherwise, go for it. I haven’t eaten anything there that is not just excellent.
