Cocina Azul is an airy, friendly place that is usually packed with cheerful diners. It does get noisy. The red chile is mildly spiced and edged with chile bitterness. The chopped green is juicy and flavorful. Rellenos are softly egg-battered, and the pulled pork is fantastic. Best of all is the calabacitas, if you like yours simmered until soft. I do. The zucchini is fall-apart soft and full of buttery flavor. There’s no green chile in the calabacitas, so ask for some on the side. Sopaipillas are served warm but are a little bland. Not the best New Mexican in Albuquerque, but a great little stop for lunch. After your meal go across the street and pick up some fantastic tea from NM Tea Company! unfussyepicure.com

Though Cocina Azul is a bright and beautiful restaurant, I’m not really impressed with their food. It’s pretty mediocre. I enjoyed their sopapillas, guacamole, chips and salsa, but the main plates are kind of bland and not very spicy. I feel like it’s a watered down version of what New Mexican food is supposed to be. Out-of-towners may enjoy this spot but if they were my guests, I would take them to one of the better New Mexican restaurants out there. A lot of restaurants around here hand out chips and salsa for free, so I was a little disappointed Cocina Azul charges for that.In addition to the mediocre food, I don’t really eat here anymore because I must eat gluten free for medical purposes and there are very few things on the menu that are or could be gluten free, but aren’t labeled gluten free on the menu. I’m also not sure if the staff is aware of the safety precautions necessary to ensure that a gluten free meal stays gluten free. I wish they would address this on their menu and carry more gluten free options.

The spam and eggs here are delicious. There’s not too many restaurants that serve traditional spam and eggs with green chile and papas like New Mexicans grew up eating, and this restaurant nailed it!

OUTSTANDING FOOD AND SERVICE. The BEST Southwestern food we have ever tasted. We loved the fantastic burrito, the chile and everything else…..We had outstanding service and friendly atmosphere and the restaurant is super clean. Loved the experience…highly recommended.

I’ll PASS eating here again!!. The food was ok, but the service was poor. Our waitress was not very friendly. The coffee was $3, and they never came around for a refill. I will not be eating here again

Over-rated. The food is ordinary, and unpredictable in quality. The service is routinely slow and sloppy. I won’t go back.

Ordered beef and cheese enchilladas with both red and green chili no flour as in gluten free. The chili was horrible and loaded with salt. The red chili wasn’t even thick and made the corn tortillas look soggy. The calibesitas were also salty. They were kind to relace it with a thin sliced burger without the bun which reminded me of the Nelson Meats patty. As i expected a fresh thick burgerburger for the price. Plus place very expensive. I am disappointed and hope Cocina Azul will make better food. I will gladly pay homeage to Sadies or Garcia’s’s or even Perico’s who carry a better quality of food and real red chili.
