I really like the sauce on the pizza. Its odd uniqueness but really familiar it bugs me the bit of spice in it. Other thsn that the pizza is pretty much a normal slice.
Stumbled into this pizza joint during my most recent visit to Albuquerque – it’s located downtown right on Central Ave and has a prominent neon sign. Pizza is sold here either by the slice or as a whole pie, there’s also a selection of calzones. We mostly ordered a variety of calzones with water or sodas. The crust tasted very authentic to me and the ingredients did indeed remind me of eating same in New York (there’s a certain flavor to the sausage/pepperoni in particular that is unique to New York) – I think they have this down. There were only two things that seemed off to me so I’ve adjusted my rating down by one star:1. First time I’ve ever been served a calzone with sauce in the pocket un-asked for. I’ve worked in a lot of restaurants, including a rather prominent Italian restaurant in Atlanta and I’ve never been served a calzone that had sauce inside – it’s usually served on the side (which in this case you got both). Don’t get me wrong, it was tasty but odd to me. Maybe it’s a regional thing? Is this normal for Albuquerque? Just be aware that if you order a calzone, there will be sauce, even if it’s not listed that way on the menu (all 4 calzones that we received had red sauce in the pocket).2. Our order was really messed up – we originally ordered two of one calzone, plus two others. We ended up with 4 different calzones including one we hadn’t ordered (meatball – I ended up with it and liked it quite a bit). Besides adding a lot of confusion to our table it seems we ended up with another table’s calzone, which delayed our being served for some time. Since we were all starved we ate what we got. As mentioned before the flavors were all good so we just went with it – just be aware to double check what you’re getting.I’d gladly give this place another try – my sister-in-law who lives in Albuquerque liked the food quite a lot and mentioned that she’s adding it as a regular stop. independentrestaurantreview.com
Crappy Service outweighs some pretty good food =(. Pizza is decent, its great that they have their own micro beer, and their wings are awesome! However, their Service is Crap! Crappy enough to earn 1 star. Very rude individuals who will ignore you and literally watch you wait before being acknowledged. I work near by and this has happened more than once. So far, all this place has going for it is a good location. Get NEW staff NYC!
Awesome pizza, good beer & good service. We love how late it’s open and always head over after a concert. The location is great and in waking distance from our normal hotel (Andaluz) and the atmosphere is super laid back and comfortable.
Late night walk. Great late night pizza on a Saturday night after having a few at the bar
Cook needs an attitude adjustment!. My bf and I are driving across country. We had been on the road for about 9hrs so you can imagine how tired and hungry we were by the time we arrived into Albuquerque. We quickly checked into our hotel and booked it to JCs in hopes of grabbing a cold brew and a few slices. Instead when we arrived, through the side entrance, we were greeted by an unenthusiastic cook behind the counter. He began to cuss up a storm and continued his tantrum by throwing pieces of food at his station. Which was really confusing considering we got there 45min before closing time. Nonetheless he made it known that we were not welcomed as he began tossing plates around. Granted there was only one other person in there and I know, from experience in the business myself, that it becomes quite difficult to tolerate a slow night. I have been in the restaurant industry since I was 15 and I am currently still a full time bartender/waitress at the age of 29. I have NEVER taken the time to write a review. Even if it was a bad experience. However this guy is going to be the reason that this business fails. Needs an attitude adjustment. We ended up going around the corner to Aldo’s pizza. Which by the way had AWESOME pizza. Even better an AWESOME staff! Ps- JCs looked dirty anyways
Pizza problems. Unfortunately the pizza was cold by the time we received it as due to the inattention of the employees. As well as the toppings were in the middle of the pizza which isn’t that hard to put around the whole pizza. When brought up to the employees no apology was given. Cannot see myself going back for these reasons. Business was slow for a Sunday evening as I can see why now. Really sad to see this.
