Bought red chile tamales last week. So disappointed with amount of chile, practically none! I understand that it is a busy season for them, but it shouldn’t affect quality of their products.

Shirley and Tom from Nebraska. We ate there with an Albuquerque friend. What a treat to enjoy all that goodness and topped it off with sweet rice for dessert.

Breakfast of champions. So I am a sucker for great tamales. Love to make them. Love to eat them. Particularly for breakfast.I believe you should always ask a restaurant if they make the tamales they are serving. If they don’t, why bother.La Mexicana, a downsized version of the original that was started in the 1930’s and burned in 2001, has always made their own. But they don’t just make the tamales. They cook their own corn that you can buy. They grind their own cooked corn that you can buy. They make their own tamale dough that you can buy. Or you can just let them turn it into wonderful, light tamales with intense pork filling and enjoy them for breakfast or lunch covered in a full-flavored red sauce. Try adding a couple of eggs for a true breakfast of champions! Got to love it!Without some incentive you might never stop at this place. Located at 3rd St. and Coal it looks more like a storage shed than a restaurant. But its certainly one of the best New Mexican meals I have had in Albuquerque. Can’t wait to go back!
