I wanted to eat in a small town on our way up to Taos from Santa Fe. You can usually find a hidden gem. I knew this place was going to be great when I walked in to see a woman cooking tortilla. I had the Buenos Dias Combination and my friend had the Huevos Rancheros. Their salsa is spicy, but everything was fabulous! Probably one of the best Mexican restaurants I have been to. Now, we having a food comatose up to Taos!

$15 Well Drinks at Happy Hour—REALLY!. Our food was absolutely incredible: tacos las brazas with beans and rice with layer upon layer of flavor and an enchilada suprema that was absolutely to die for. Not to mention the hush-hush secret salsa with the fresh chips and the delightful super-secret salad dressing that is so unknown that it’s made off-site! Had a great time till the bill arrived — now we know. BEWARE of Happy Hour! We were blown away when our bill came! Happy hour — 2 Old Crows bourbons on rocks were $15. We verified the well (Old Crow) rate with our waiter, who verified with the bartender, who verified with the owner that THAT was the price. In retrospect, maybe I should’ve had 5 Negra Modelas @ $3 each.

Not a good meal. The sopas were tough and greasy, The tacos were supposed to be filled with brisket; it was more like canned cat food in consistency. The taco was also greasy and the grease smelled bad. The relleno was filled with chopped onions and tomatoes instead of cheese, and it was very greasy.

Great food but a little pricey for Spanish food. Has great service when they aren’t hosting big parties.

Delicious food, and some of the best service we have ever experienced.

This is a definate stop… if you have time and desire a quality experience.Very nice, old fashioned place. Food, decor and service just what you should expect. Fine food, always done very nicely, at times Can be slow… just as often fast… it depends on the kitchen load, but always top notch. Northern NM fare, green or red chili dishes, high quality steaks and other choices. This is not a quick bite place, it is a professional fine dining restaurant. You may find locals drinking at the bar or national level dignitaries dining there. Again, service can be somewhat slow.. sometimes… but not usually. Just remember, you’re in Northern NM at a premier establishment. Great drinks and fabulous food in a remarkable old building. Well worth the price, wait and trip.

If I’m ever on death Row, this will be my last meal!. Where do I start? I have been coming here all my life. This is a very unique, original resturant with all their recipies coming from the familys grandmother, and founder of this local hot spot. The Atencio family keep these recipies and traditins alive in their resturant El Paragua and many taco stands in surrounding communities called El Parasol. Their food has recieved recognition from many places around the country such as: Gourmet magazine, The New York Times and many more! I have never had a negative experience. Everyting they serve has a certain flavor in it that you just cant put your finger on. Their salsa is the best I have ever had, whatever their secret is, is a secret well kept. The homeade chips with special seasoning is also very unique. Next is their house salad that comes with every entree. Many people have asked to put their house dressing in a bottle, but once again, this is a Atencio family secret and that is what keeps people coming back! My favorite things to order here are, the chicken tacos, chili rellenos, stuffed sopapillas (not listed on the menu), chicaron burritos, camarones, fajitas and the world famous Steak a Las Brazas. This place serves the best green chili in the state and the red chili is also very delicious! To top it all off, try their sopapillas, the best I have ever had.. Again, something in the recipie that you cant put a finger on,. They are served with fruit preserves which is a delightful twist on the usual honey. Last but not least, dont forget to order the margaritas. They are not shy with the tequilla and will leave you wanting more, which is ok because Espanola now has a taxi service!I go here or to the taco stand El Parasol at least once a month and will do so till I die!!!
