Great Chinese place in espa. From las Cruces, I love Chinese food and when I come up north for a visit I always make it a point to have shanghai at least once. Its awesome and it tastes good. Sweet and sour pork or chicken is my favorite or cantanese noodles. (They are very dry but tastey)
Just me, so I ordered the happy family. Light sauce, good steamed rice, maybe too much pork. Good chicken and beef with a smattering of shrimp and scallop. Crisp veggies. For this part of New Mexico: fabulous! Included soup was egg drop, which was very pleasant.

Espaola’s best Chinese…. 3 Stars – Shanghai is located in the middle of Espaola’s strip (a.k.a. Riverside Drive). It is in a non-descript little strip mall that is very easy to miss driving northbound. We came for dinner on a Saturday night. My wife and I went out for a date night without the kids. Being new to the Espaola Valley, we are slowly trying all the restaurants in town. This time we tried Shanghai. The dining room is in an odd location in the middle of the building. In the middle of the dining room is a buffet table, which was not in use on the Saturday night we visited. There was only one waitress overseeing all the patrons, but the place wasn’t too busy fortunately. We ordered two entrees, Lemon Chicken and Cantonese Noodles (with Chicken and Pork). Every entree comes with a soup of the day. On our day it was Egg Drop. The lemon chicken was supposed to come with fried rice, and it was forgotten by our server. We didn’t mention it to her because we had more than enough food. Our soup came out quickly, and it was very good. Served appropriately hot. Our entrees came out at different intervals, 5 minutes apart. We ate family style, which we often do at Chinese restaurants. The lemon chicken was prepared very well, and the fried portions were done very well. Not too heavy, or greasy. The lemon sauce was a little heavy for my taste. We really enjoyed the Cantonese Noodles. So often, i find Asian restaurants severely over cook the noodles, but Shanghai got it just right. Their vegetables were cooked perfectly as well, and they were of good quality. All in all, a good meal. We will return when in the mood for Chinese. Especially over the other Chinese restaurant in Espaola.
