GOOD ALL-AROUND NEW MEXICAN FOOD RESTAURANTChilitos on Foothills is ranked the eighth (8th) best Mexican food restaurant in the area out of over sixty restaurants. SO, FORGET ALL THE NEGATIVE TRASH YOU MIGHT READ ON THE INTERNET.This location is a little nicer than the Chilitos on the southwest side of town. Inside it has sort of an industrial feel to it with heavy wooden furniture in addition to a nice outdoor patio. Nothing great regarding the ambiance but it is fine for either lunch or dinner. The restaurant is well lighted and clean. The service is fairly good but could be sharpened up a little. A hostess will lead you to a table. Sometimes they are a little tardy getting your check to you and some waitresses are better than others. But, no complaints. The menu is not as broad as some other Mexican restaurants. They serve a combination of American and New Mex cuisine. Prices are the norm. They do serve beer. The food is generally quite good, but Chilitos is known for some inconsistency in their food preparation. The refried beans are below par, the tamales are just ok, THE GREEN CHILE CON CARNE IS EXCELLENT, but their ground beef filled gorditas are not so good. The chips are fine and the red salsa is good. Their SMOTHERED GREEN CHILE CON CARNE BURRITOS ARE EXCELLENT. The red chile burritos are average…..not among my favorites. For some reason the red chile does not have a great flavor when compared to other places. I have experienced disappointment with their green chile cheeseburgers and fries. Their SOPAPILLA COMPUESTA with green chile is very good. Their FAJITAS ARE REAL GOOD. They also have good skillet breakfasts. What to expect if you go: A nice, clean restaurant with fairly good service, reasonable prices, and generally good food. There is some inconsistency in the cooking. But, one can get some really good New Mex food here.MEXICAN FOOD RATING = OVERALL, NINTH BEST IN THE AREA…..BETTER THAN 85% OF THE MEXICAN RESTAURANTS AROUND TOWNRestaurant rating = FOUR-AND-A-QUARTER STARS….meaning, a good overall dining experience. This is one of your better Mexican food restaurants around town….but it is not among the best. Will I return? Yes.

  • A Regular

My husband had to run to the restroom and barf after eating 2 bites. My dish had hamburger that was old and dried out that I told them to tell cook to toss it

Best place for red chile. Breakfast? Egg, cheese, choose a meat (bacon, ham or sausage) burrito smoother in red chile. Chile to spicy, add sour cream. Bonus coffee is really good too.

    Great salsa. Mediocre food.

Mediocre at best. Taco’s with beans and rice. Cold beans, lame rice. Reminded me of the mediocre Mexican food I can get in Michigan at chain restaurants.

Simple yet great meal!. I tend to be somewhat a regular on Saturday mornings and order huevos rancheros with red chile. The chile has a buttery texture with medium heat. Simply made with a side of refried beans and tortilla. Every now and then I will order with the green chile to be different. And they have great coffee. I’m always happy with my order. Their lunch and dinner menu is great as well. Their salsa is some of the best in town. Fresh and on the verge of being too hot. Don’t expect fancy but do expect a great meal.
