DOWN HOME COOKING, FAST FOOD STYLEGrandy’s is somewhat of an anomaly; it serves a limited down home menu in a fast food sort of way. No tipping and reasonable pricing. The restaurant is bright and clean inside and it offers a number of booths. Some say the decor is outdated, and they may be right, but it is ok for casual dining. Step up to the counter and order from the board above. The service is efficient and quick. MUCH OF THE FOOD IS PRE-PREPARED AND SITTING IN WARMING TRAYS. My order was ready in about 90 seconds.I found the dinner roles ok but not the most flavorful. The green beans were way overcooked and boiled to a soft consistency as with many of the poorer restaurants. The mashed potatoes were ok while the gravy covering them and my chicken fried steak was weak on flavor. The chicken fried steak itself was tolerable but not one of your better ones. The food sort of reminded me of that found in larger buffets. I doubt I will return. What to expect if you go: A clean, well lighted, and somewhat comfortable restaurant, if a bit old-fashioned, quick food preparation as you wait in line, reasonable pricing, no tipping, and very pedestrian food.Restaurant rating = THREE STARS…..,meaning, be ready for an unremarkable run-of-the-mill dining experience. The food is sort of buffet quality.

LIMITED DOWN HOME COOKING IN A FAST FOOD RESTAURANT.Grandy’s is somewhat of an anomaly. It serves a limited variety of what would be described as down home cooking but in a fast food atmosphere. The attraction is that this kind of food cannot be found in most fast food restaurants, there is no tipping, and the prices are most reasonable. But is the food any good? I found the restaurant to be bright and clean with many booths and a fair degree of openness. No sense of crowding here. Rate the ambiance a B. Step up to the counter and order from the board above as in any fast food restaurant. The service is efficient and quick. MUCH OF THE FOOD IS PRE-PREPARED AND SITTING IN WARMING TRAYS so it is quick and easy to get your order ready while you wait. Mine was ready in about 90 seconds or so! Obviously not cooked to order. Rate the service good (B) for a fast food place. Regarding my meal: The dinner rolls were ok, but not the most flavorful. They also seemed a little dry. Rate them a C+. The green beans were overcooked and had been boiled to a soft consistency as in so many poorer restaurants. Rate them a C minus. The mashed potatoes were ok (a B minus) and the gravy covering them and the chicken fried steak was a little weak…not as flavorful as it should have been. Rate it a B minus. The chicken fried steak was ok but had nothing to really recommend it. It was not horrible but not really that good either. It was ok…rate it a B minus. This is the kind of food, despite what Mr. Blackhole says, that most people would not go out of their way for or want to repeat…give it a second go around so to speak (C+ to B- range generally). The food sort of reminds you of that served by the large buffets. I doubt seriously that I will go back to Grandy’s. After all, what for???? While the ambiance isn’t bad…it really is not a bad place to dine…rate the overall dining experience THREE STARS….certainly no higher because of the quality of the food. The food served here is essentially that of the C range to B minus range. Not the stuff of legend despite what Mr. Blackhole would have you believe. You know better than that.BOTTOM LINE: WILL I RETURN TO DINE HERE? I SERIOUSLY DOUBT IT. WHAT FOR?

Delicious. Its a fast food version of Cracker Barrel.Very good food, I always get the Chicken Fried Chicken, its always very juicy, and cooked well, the sides are always great too, I have only had one occurrence that the vegetables were not fresh.I had thought Grandys went out of business, as the 3 locations that were in my hometown were shuttered about 10 years ago, but to my delight, I was driving around in Las Cruces and I see this.Sight for sore eyes.Love this place.

The other reviewer is right it is a bad combination of village inn and churches chicken. the catfish was ok being that it was from the freezer. my mashed potatoes and beans were a little warmer than room temperature. I would only go back if i was with someone and they begged me and offered to pay.
