AT LAST! A REAL INDIAN RESTAURANT FOR LAS CRUCESThe India Hut Restaurant opened on South Solano near Missouri in late 2017. It is a small restaurant with two rooms and about twelve to fifteen tables of various sizes. The windows are covered with heavy curtains which isolate the customer from the outside world. Inside there is a checkout booth near the side entrance and a buffet area for lunchtime. This little restaurant is nothing special as far as ambiance but it is just fine for casual dining. On the numerous occasions I have visited I found the service pleasant and efficient. Used plates were removed promptly and water glasses refilled without asking.Indian restaurants are, of course, known for their lunch buffets which let the customer sample a wide variety of Indian cuisine. This is a good place to begin. Most people are not familiar with the exotic food. The India Hut’s buffet is on the smaller side for an Indian buffet but they offer some pretty good Indian food. For the buck the India Buffet lunch is a good deal. The chicken curry is good but sort of standard stuff. The Tandoori Chicken I found a little dry and with not much flavor….but I am not a great fan of tandoori chicken. Their GARLIC NAAN is good as is their EGG BIRYANI. One of my favorites is the VEGETABLE PAKORA. I did not think the spinach paneer was one of the better dishes they serve….I have had much better in other places. The butter chicken was good but not great. The chicken tika masala is good as well. All-in-all, the Indian food served here is above average to good for Indian food…..but there is better around the country. But, we are forunate to have this new addition to the Las Cruces dining scene. What to expect if you go: A lunch buffet that is a great deal for the money, a clean little place with so-so ambiance, friendly service, and pretty good Indian food but not as much variety as we would like to see.Restaurant rating = FOUR STARS….meaning, a good overall dining experience. Unique food for Las Cruces. I just wish they would expand their menu a bit.
