EXCELLENT CAKES AND PIES, A MEDIOCRE BURGER AND FRIES, AND A VERY GOOD CREPE DISHThe Indulgence Bakery and Cafe on South Main is set back from the road in a little business block. It is not the easiest place to spot from the road and I am not crazy about the location or the parking situation. That being said, the restaurant and bakery does offer some unusual and very good food. The cakes and pies tend to be a little on the expensive side but this would clearly be one of the best places to order your cakes and pies for special occasions.Inside the restaurant has a hard cement floor and corrugated metal over the ceiling. This all makes for poor acoustics. Sound really travels and it can be quite noisy when busy. There are approximately seven tables with two or four chairs apiece and about seven booths with high backs to increase a sense of privacy. The look is sort of part rustic and part industrial. Paintings for sale by local artists cover the walls…..$125.00, $175.00, $250.00….that kind of stuff. Overall, the ambiance is a little stark but clean. It is ok for casual dining. The menu is mostly breakfast and lunch foods……crepes is one of their specialties. Prices are not cheap. A couple could easily spend $30.00 to $45.00 on breakfast……including tip. Ouch! The service at Indulgence I find to be ok but not real professional. The young ladies are pleasant enough and I have had no complaints. But, although I had a follow up during my most recent venture over there, the server did not seem interested in refilling my water glass. She said she would bring my bill to the table but never did. Oh, no big deal. Most recently I sampled their CARAMEL APPLE PIE BLINTZES. This dish was artfully presented on a white plate. Comprised of three crepes with a sweet ricotta filling and topped with apple pie chunks, a streusel crumble and a caramel drizzle and a dollop of sour cream……the dish was very good. The ricotta filling was very light and thankfully did not have a strong ricotta flavor. The dish overall was not too sweet….another big plus. This dish was well thought out and well executed. A unique dish for around these parts and a very good one for breakfast. On an earlier occasion I ordered their B J’s BURGER with fries. The bun had a nice flavor. They advertised the burger as a half pound but it seemed smaller. The burger was not properly seasoned and it tasted like eating straight ground beef. The shoestring fries were a little soft and oily. I was not pleased by either the burger or the fries. For the money you could do much better at many other places around town. Also tried their LEMON MOUSSE CAKE and found it delicious! Really, really good! What to expect if you go: A clean but casual place with poor acoustics, just ok service, good breakfast food but mediocre sandwiches, prices a little on the high side……and delicious cakes and pies. A mixed bag. Next I want to try their Philly.Restaurant rating = somewhere between THREE-AND-THREE-QUARTER and FOUR STARS…..MEANING SOMEWHERE BETWEEN ABOVE AVERAGE AND GOOD FOR THE OVERALL DINING EXPERIENCE……DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU ORDER AND HOW MUCH CASH YOU HAVE.
