A NICE DELI FOR A CHAIN RESTAURANTJason’s Deli is a large, open, clean, well lighted, and comfortable place to dine. It is full of light and has many comfortable booths. There are several dining areas separated off from each other with low dividers; this does away with any warehouse feel. It’s all quite attractive with a warm, modern look. Jason’s also offers a salad bar and a self-serve ice cream area. I have tried neither so I can’t comment on them.I have always found the staff helpful and pleasant. Well trained. The menu is varied with numerous soups, a chef’s salad, chicken caesar salad, a taco salad, fruit plate, turkey wraps, Mediterranean wraps, loaded baked potatoes, muffaletta sandwiches, club sandwiches, meatball sandwiches, reuben sandwiches, paninis, and pasta dishes like chicken alfredo. Prices are most reasonable. You order at the beginning of a long counter. It seems a little confusing at times as not all the options are listed on the big board overhead. But, maybe that’s just me?? The food is prepared quickly and brought out to your table. The staff does a good job.I had their chef salad which was fairly large; actually a pretty big meal. Fresh lettuce, cherry tomatoes, slices of hardboiled eggs, shredded ham and turkey breast, asiago and cheddar cheese, and flavorful kalamatas olives with a raspberry vinaigrette dressing made for an excellent salad.I also have experienced their ham and hard salami muffaletta. The bread was very good, flavorful and robust with a nice toasted crust. The meat was plentiful and the olive mix had the right balance between green and ripe olives. This was an enjoyable sandwich. Also had their meatball sandwich which was good also.Their broccoli and cheese soup and their vegetable soup I found to be ok, but nothing remarkable. What to expect if you go: A nice attractive place to dine with no sense of crowding. Good and efficient service. A well rounded menu and very reasonable prices. Food that is pretty good as far as quality and design. Nothing exceptional….just good solid cuisine.Restaurant rating = FOUR STARS……meaning, you’ll have a good overall dining experience. Never had a problem here.(In passing……comparing the various delis around Las Cruces I would say the following: Nicest ambiance for dining…..Jason’s Deli and McAlister’s Deli with The Corner Bakery Cafe coming in third. Best all around menu……Jason’s and McAlisters Deli. Most pleasant and efficient service……Jason’s and McAlisters at the top but the Corner Deli off Madrid for the most efficient and fastest. McAlisters is fast though. Best all around sandwiches……Metropolitan Deli is really good as is the Corner Deli off Madrid. McAlisters is near the top. Jason’s sandwiches would be a tad lower on the rung. The Corner Bakery Cafe would come in last among these places in food quality. Price wise….not much difference. Best all-around dining experience…..Jason’s and McAlisters delis. But, I do like Metropolitan. They have big and very good sandwiches. I would prefer the sandwiches at the Corner Deli to those at the Corner Bakery Cafe any day of the week.)
Over salted, bland, and undercooked. This is not a deli, rather its a nicely decorated junior high cafeteria.
