IT’S MARGINALLY OK FOR A CHINESE FAST FOOD JOINTLin’s Express is a Chinese fast-food, pre-prepared food type of place. Order at the counter by choosing one, two, or three entrees. The lady behind the counter scoops up the food and puts it into a styrofoam container with your choice of rice or noodles. Soft drinks and utensils are on a nearby counter. The overall ambiance is sort of typical for fast food. The place is well lighted and appears clean. There were THREE POSITIVES to my experience: One, the cost is very moderate. Two, the service was very quick. Three, the food looked decent…it was not swimming in a liquid like it is so often in this kind of setting. Recently I ordered a spicy chicken with lo mein noodles. It was ok….nothing great, nothing bad. I have dined at this place several times over the past few years and on those occasions found the food….as the orange chicken…..to be ok.What to expect if you go: A fairly clean and comfortable place, nothing thrilling but ok as far as ambiance, low prices, a limited selection of food, food that is pre-prepared and sitting in warming trays, super quick service, and food that is ok….middle of the road in quality. Nothing special but ok in a pinch if Chinese cuisine is on the list for lunch.Restaurant rating = Take your pick, either TWO-AND-THREE-QUARTER or THREE STARS ……meaning, sort of typical fast food stuff…..not real good but not bad. This is generally not a place I yearn to return to. It is what it is.
I like this place. It is very good food. The restaurant is clean. And they got the good price too. I am very enjoy come to here have dinner. I like coconut shrimp a lot. And the spicy chicken taste so good. I think everyone come here should taste the spicy chicken. They fresh sushi roll everyday. Every nice restaurant.
SUB-PAR CHINESE FAST FOOD. This is the restaurant that replaced the Empire Express on El Paseo in front of Pro’s Ranch sometime in late 2012. Inside the interior of the restaurant has been changed and is opened up with all the cheap looking fast food plastic stuff removed. Now the dining area is much more inviting featuring attractive dark tables with Chinese characters. Rate the new and improved ambiance about a B. The place is bright and appears clean. The set up with the numerous holding trays and food warmers remains intact. Choose your food and the server will scoop it all into a styrofoam container. Rate the service the usual for this kind of place. Most of the selections seemed to be varieties of chicken dishes, e.g., General Tso’s chicken, orange chicken, chicken in a honey sauce etc. I believe there were two beef offerings, broccoli and beef and teriyaki beef. Your combo meal comes with either fried rice or lo mein. Prices are very low…..you can get a lot of food for $4.99. This seems to be the attraction here. I sampled the orange chicken and the broccoli and beef with lo mein. The food was piled into the container in such a huge amount that the sauces began to overflow through the closed container as I carried it to a table. A disaster was narrowly averted. The chicken was ok, not too mushy and not too crispy. The flavor was fair. Rate this dish about a B-. The lo mein noodles were chewy and flavorless. A little tough. Rate them a C…..not the stuff of legend. The broccoli was done just about right….not overly cooked or steamed, firm with good color. The trouble was that the broccoli was sitting in or contaminated by a rather unpleasant sauce in which the beef was cooked. The beef cuts were really quite tasteless and made worse by the unpalatable sauce they were in. This dish was really poor by any standard. Rate it a D- at best. Obviously I did not consume much of it. At the end of the day….people eating here must be concerned mainly with low cost and large food portions. There can be no other reason to dine at Lin’s Express. The food is, plainly speaking, not very good. And, some of it is sitting around in warming trays for a good long while. Nothing here is made to order. I certainly cannot recommend dining in such a place. Rate the overall dining experience TWO STARS…….MEANING BELOW AVERAGE TO POOR.BOTTOM LINE: WILL I DINE HERE IN THE FUTURE? NO.
