NEW MEXICAN FOOD CAFE WITH INCONSISTENT FOOD AND SERVICEMi Pueblito is a small cafe on Idaho not far off South Solano. IT IS RATED THE TWENTIETH (20th) BEST MEXICAN RESTAURANT IN TOWN. The parking situation leaves much to be desired ( I usually park up the side street). Inside the restaurant you’ll find about six or seven fairly comfortable booths (which may be already occupied when you enter). There are several tables with banquet-style chairs. The cafe is well lighted inside and generally kept in good order. You seat yourself and a waitress will bring you a menu, chips, and salsa. You walk to a little counter area and pay the bill when you are finished. The service overall is ok, but not really good service….friendly but sort of on the amateurish side. Sort of basic but acceptable for a very casual cafe. Customers are heavily Hispanic. The vibe is generally friendly enough. When this little place gets busy seating can be at a premium and one can get a somewhat claustrophobic feeling. Once when I was there during a busy lunch hour it took twenty-seven minutes to get my food out of the kitchen…..unacceptable. No one here seems to bust a hump to get the food out. The menu is mostly the New Mex basics; rolled enchiladas with chile sauce, tamales, rellenos with chile sauce, chimichangas filled with chile con carne, bathed burritos filled with chile, etc. The prices are most reasonable.I do not dine here too often as I have found the food to be inconsistent over the years. Sometimes it is really good and other times you wish they took more pride in their food prep. Their salsa is slightly warm and really good. Usually it is high on the heat. I find their chimichangas with a beef and potato filling to be good. I have had bathed burritos here that rank with the best in town. On other occasions they seemed to be reheated in a microwave and the tortillas were soft and pasty. The carne adovda has been good and then not so good. In May 2019 I had the burrito plate with one red and one green chile meat burritos. The potato in the burritos was par-boiled just right. The chile sauces were ok as far as flavor…..but the flavor was not great. It was just ok. The refried beans were ok….nothing bad nothing good. The rice was the usual. All-in-all, a decent but not exceptional meal. The server never followed-up as she did with the regulars. So it goes at Mi Pueblito. What to expect if you go: A bad parking situation, a small place than can get busy and claustrophobic, service very basic that is hit-or-miss, and food that can be real good or mediocre. Yet, this place is worth checking out if you are into New Mex cuisine.MEXICAN FOOD RATING = SIXTEENTH BEST AROUND TOWN. Food quality may just make the upper 25%.RESTAURANT RATING = THREE-AND-THREE-QUARTER STARS…..meaning, above average…..but there are probably fifteen or more better Mexican/New Mexican food restaurants around town. Will I return to dine? Now and then.

My boyfriend and i ate at mi pueblito today despite all the bad reviews and were disappointed we didn’t listen and went anyway. Both our plates were bland and nothing special at all! For just us two it almost came out to 40 dollars for two bland plates two teas and a dessert. Oh well we’ll definitely not be back.

AMAZING!!. I lived in las cruces for almost 4 years, I worked right down the street from Mi Pueblito and would order a burrito in the morning and afternoon almost every day….I wish they were here in my hometown Kansas city…..never have found a Mexican restaurant that matches this one….I miss it so!! The employees are very nice and accommodating, restaurant is clean, I am even thinking about getting tickets to fly down there just so I can eat there again!!!
