MEDIOCRE CHINESE FAST FOODThe Panda Express on Rinconada Blvd is a fairly open, roomy, bright, and clean restaurant with a high ceiling. The chairs are not particularly comfortable but fortunately they offer some comfortable booths. You order at the counter where pre-prepared food awaits. The staff is usually quick and efficient in a fast-food style. Sometimes it is hard to hear them as the place can be noisy. The food is usually packed up and handed to you quickly. Drinks are self-serve.On my most recent visit (2018) my meal was less than $8.00. As you can see, the prices are very reasonable. That and the fact that there is no tipping accounts for the regular flow of customers. I have twice tried their Orange Chicken and the Beijing Beef with a side of chow mein. The food the first time was oily. The second time around it was less so but it was so hard from the cornstarch dusting and the hot oil that I could hardly get my fork into it. The beef, in particular, was quite chewy. Both the beef and the chicken were somewhat dry and the thick sweet sauces covering them made it seem AS IF I WERE EATING CANDY. The Beijing Beef was listed as spicy but it had only a little kick to it…..somewhat tame. Neither had much flavor. The chow mein is a serving of thin noodles with a little bit (almost non-existent) of celery and cabbage. Flavor wise the chow mein was just ok. I had previously sampled their Kung Pao Chicken which had very little meat in the dish. The Panda Express seems to dice its vegetables into tiny pieces for some odd reason. Overall, the food was mediocre. What to expect if you go: A bright, clean place lacking in comfort, (A KIND OF TYPICAL FAST-FOOD AMBIANCE) reasonable prices that will not break your budget, quick service, and mostly mediocre Americanized Chinese fast food. For those who think this is great Chinese food…..wow!Restaurant rating = TWO-AND-THREE-QUARTER STARS…….meaning, kind of below the average fast food experience. I don’t like Mickey D’s so I might prefer this place to McDonalds’. Maybe.
