GOOD FOOD…..BUT OVERALL DINING EXPERIENCE….JUST OK.I have dined at Pastaggio’s five or six times going back to when the restaurant was essentially a takeout joint. In the past couple of years they have upgraded the interior turning it into a semi-comfortable restaurant. The ambinace is not bad for casual dining, but it is not the most comfortable place nor the most welcoming. The restaurant is a bit dark, but it is clean. And yet, for some reason it gives off a strange chilly vibe. This is not a full-serve restaurant. You place your order with a young lady up front at the counter, pay in advance, and find your seat. The utensils and drinks are serve yourself. They will bring the food out to your table and you will not get a follow-up. If you want something or have an issue, you get up and ask or present your issue to the staff at the counter. The service end of the business has not been upgraded along with the interior…..they still treat the customer as if this were still a takeout operation. Not saying that the service is unpleasant…..it is just bare minimum. The food at Pastaggio’s, on the other hand, is pretty good. I have not had their pasta dishes so I cannot comment on those, but their pizza is very good and their Italian and meatball sandwiches are upper echelon. The sandwiches are made on their homemade bread and toasted panini style. The meatballs and sausage is sliced thin….no big links found here. My most recent Italian sausage sandwich had both red and green bell peppers….large slices….and onions and cheese with a nice tomato sauce. The bread of course is delicious…..one of a kind. What to expect if you go: A clean, semi-attractive place with wood furniture and comfortable booths, a little dark inside and an ambiance somewhat lacking in warmth. Very basic service….order at the counter and pay before your food comes. Go get your drinks and utensils yourself. The menu is not broad and MANY CLASSIC ITALIAN DISHES ARE NOT SERVED HERE. But, what they do serve is pretty good. Prices are going up but they are still reasonable.Restaurant rating = THREE-AND-THREE-QUARTER STARS…….meaning, above average for a casual meal. Good food but nothing out of the ordinary as a dining experience. Will I return to dine at Pastaggio’s? Yes, now and then.
