Upscale brew pub with a good wide range of beers. Gravitated to a stout while Wendy mixed the stout with their signature Pecan Ale. Both were very good and the stout rivaled Rogue’s Shakespeare. She ordered a house salad because we just left Sparkies . Good and fresh. Pub food and New Mexican favorites. Chillin Rellenos! chilltravelers.com
Formerly known as De La Vega’s Pecan Grill and Brewery, this restaurant has established itself as one of the premier grill & breweries here in Las Cruces. Already their signature beer, The Pecan Beer, is already one of the most popular local brews to purchase. Arturo Tovar is the new chef, and as such, some things have changed. Having only been here once, I decided to take it upon myself to make reservations for my birthday dinner. I was accompanied by my mother, my aunt, and my little sister. The main dining room is large and spacious. I found myself thankful that when I called, I had asked for a booth. Our waitress immediately set upon us with water spiked with a slice of cucumber. We debated for a while on our orders, as the choices were numerous. I ordered the Green Chile Chicken ($19), my mother and sister each ordered the Hatch Chicken Alfredo ($14), and my aunt decided on the 10 oz Prime Rib ($29).Our entrees took about twenty minutes to arrive; thankfully it wasn’t cold.My chicken was a stuffed breast with green chile and cheese, topped with a roasted red pepper Alfredo and atop a bed of green chile risotto, with a side of grilled asparagus. At first, the meat was a little dry, but as I got into the center of the chicken, it was soon moist and delicious. I found that the red pepper Alfredo sauce added just the right amount of a subtle sweetness. My only concern was that the melted cheese in the middle had no exact flavor; perhaps a sharp cheddar would have worked well. There was also a distinct lack of green chile in the cheese as well. However, it made up for the lack of spice with the risotto, which had a bite to it. I would have been happy with just a bowl of that. The grilled asparagus were certainly grilled and had a nice char, yet still retained a crisp flavor.I sampled the Chicken Alfredo out of curiosity. The pasta was al dente, and the cream sauce was silky and smooth. Add the green chile to it, and it was very tasty. I did notice there was quite a bit of bacon in the pasta, but it didn’t change the taste. My aunt’s prime rib was big-Fred Flintstone brontosaurus size (only the 10 oz); it was juicy and done just how she wanted it. Her garlic mashed potatoes was good, but we kept finding small chunks of cooked garlic in them. Will this be the last time I come here? I don’t think so, but I’ll stick to the late night, lunch, and appetizer menu.
Food was excellent and well worth the price! Beware a lot of their dishes are spicy! However, depending on the dish you can request your green chilis on the side!
Beer is good. The fondue appetizer is very tasty. The entrees though are very bland.
The food was subpar, at best. My a la carte salad was a bowl of chopped icebrg lettuce. I eat at fine dining restaurants (which this place is NOT) frequently, where a la carte sides are common. When you do them well, I’ll pay your price. When you chop up some iceberg lettuce and throw it in the bowl, you shouldn’t charge me for it. I also had the manicotti. It was not good. For some reason, people in NM think they have to throw green chiles in everything. The chiles ruined the flavor profile by overpowering the entire dish. Couldn’t discern the marinara or the ricotta cheese at all. Way over priced for such poorly prepared food.
High Marks for Food Quality, Atmosphere, Entertainment & Drink Specials. I’ve been to this restaurant and brewery numerous times, and they have always exceeded my expectations for food, service, and entertainment. The staff is very attentive. I give De La Vega’s high marks for food quality, atmosphere, entertainment, and drink specials! This is the place that I recommend to others, the place I take my friends who are visiting from out of town.
This restaurant had the WORST service I have EVER had in my LIFE. Our group’s meals took OVER an hour to arrive. Drinks were not refilled. Dirty plates were not removed. Drinks were splilled on coworkers. Salads were given to the wrong people. Do NOT GO HERE.
