  GOOD GORDITAS. THE OTHER STUFF IS MEDIOCRE AT BESTDon’t fall for it when certain people over-hype their hangout. The gorditas served up at Saenz are pretty good, and I rate them in the top five around Las Cruces, but the other food served here is not so great. Quick service, good prices, and no tipping have a lot to do with Saenz’s popularity. To get better gorditas you have to go into other places and sit down to be waited on, and Saenz groupies probably wouldn’t like that.I cannot give Saenz Gorditas an overall ranking for the dining experience since there isn’t any real dining experience…..just a few steel picnic tables out front. Most people drive away with their goods or eat in the car. You order at the drive-up window or the little window in the front of the building. The service is quick and business-like. Prices are reasonable……especially for the gorditas after 2:00 PM.Over the years I’ve sampled all versions of the gorditas which have a nice masa flavor. But, the gorditas vary over time: sometimes they are kind of greasy and other times not. The chile filled gorditas are mediocre. I like the regular ground beef gorditas at this restaurant which include onion and potato.What to expect if you go: Fairly quick service, good prices, good gorditas, and other Mexican food of mediocre quality in styrofoam containers.GORDITA RATING = HIGH….TOP FIVE AROUND TOWNMEXICAN FOOD RATING = LOW, FIFTY OR SO…..BOTTOM 20%.Restaurant rating = TWO-AND-THREE-QUARTER STARS…..meaning, we would like to see a little more…..below the norm for dining. The five star reviews on Yelp are, of course, a joke.Will I go again? Yes, but only for the gorditas.

  BETTER THAN CHICO’S TACOS!!. This is Las Cruces, place to go when your driving around town running errands and need a quick taco 3 pack to curve the hunger. Also when you’re in need of a simple remedy for dinner, they have the 99cent gorditas from 2pm to 4pm. So don’t let any REVIEW’S stop you from picking up an order to go and remember they WON this year’s SALSA FEST CONTEST!!!

  Best Mexican food in Cruces…even among the sit-down joints. While there’s no shortage of Mexican restaurants in Las Cruces, there IS a shortage of stellar Mexican restaurants that are set apart by the fact that their food is universally delicious and reasonably priced. On food alone (ambience, architecture, and decor aside), Saenz wins hands down. There are no better tacos in town, with the warm, fresh-fried shells crisply cracking with each bite. The gorditas are similarly delicious, with shells perfectly balancing between the crisp fried exterior and tender middle. And everything else is that good too. You pretty much can’t go wrong. My ONLY complaint is that they’re closed Sundays, and that, especially when the weather’s not great and you’d like to eat outside, you might have to eat in your car or take it home. But the place is so good that I’m happy to do either when necessary.

  Gorge on Gorditas!. If you are on a budget but want Mexican food the look no further. From 12-5pm Saenz Gorditas serve up their TASTY gorditas for only 99cents. The gorditas are large and filling and come with Saenz’s own salsa which is quite scrumptious as well.
