In early 2013 (February) I tried the one on central. The food was amazing. Good proportions for the price. Nice people. Since around July, it has gone completely down hill- no flavor, run down, dirty, rude staff…. How is he even still in business.

Great food! Great atmosphere!. I love going to Mr. Powdrell’s! If you like modern, visit the location on Central. But if you like history and a relaxing environment, this is where you need to be. I usually get one of the plates with the smoked sausage (to die for!) and they have made me a lover of greens. Every side we have ever tried here has been phenomenal! Be sure to save room for the sweet potato pie and wash it down with a glass of sweet tea. Then you’ll know what heaven tastes like!

Disgusting. This place is completely disgusting. I couldn’t even eat the mac and cheese. There was no flavor to the sides and no amount of salt in the world could have helped. Believe me, I tried. The meat itself had very little flavor. It was tender enough but no flavor. This was the worst bbq and sides I’ve had. I heard the other location is much better but I’m too scared to try it. I think this might be the worst restaurant I’ve ever been to in Albuquerque. Definitely not worth the high prices.

Mixed experience at Powdrell’s.. We love bbq and wanted to try several on our one time visit to Albuquerque. We saved Powdrell’s for last, as it had a long running reputation. There was some positive but also some negative.Negative: The baby back ribs were horrible. Not just bad, horrible. We ordered the full rack, far too much, intending to take the leftovers on our trip home. We left them on the table. And if you knew what a garbage can my husband is, you would understand what I mean by bad. Tough, overcooked, rubbery. Sides were not particularly good, black eyed peas and bbq beans both mediocre. Cole slaw somewhat dry. Good: Server was happy and fun. Sympathized about the bad baby back ribs and knocked them off the bill. And as we left she gave us a little gift pack of 2 St. Louis ribs, which, by the way, WERE very good. The brisket sandwich was also very good. I liked the atmosphere too. But many bbq joints do not have baby back ribs, too bad they don’t. But the one that does ought to do them right. I fear so few order them that the available ribs just sit there getting tough and rubbery. If this might be true, I suggest they pull them from the menu. All in all, after trying several places (including RIBS up on the Mountain) its interesting, but we would go back to Golden Pride, which I gather is a regional chain. Blending all in together, it was our best eating experience, and value.

I took my family here after hearing from everyone that its the best in town! We were greatly disappointed not only in the lack of taste in the food but in the very high price for something I felt did not meet up to the taste of other BBQ establishments in the area. I will not recommend this place to anyone or ever go back!

Fish. Get the fish plate as it is as good as the BBQ and do not try the strips of fish get the Fillet Plate! Plenty of thick chunks of Southern Fried goodness! But my Wife always get the Large Pork Sandwich with 2 sides and we split the meals and ya get the best of both!

Best BBQ in ABQ?! Over-rated?!. Nice folks, and you have to respect the history of this ABQ family business. The BBQ here is decent, but not anywhere near the best I’ve experienced. The hickory smoke registered rather nicely, but the signature sauce was only slightly above average in my opinion. The brisket was the best of their meats. The ribs and sausage were fair, but I was pretty disappointed in the chicken (lacked flavor and was served below temperature). They have lots of choices on southern sides, and respectable pancake-style corn bread…….but I failed to whole-heartedly identify with their claim of New Orleans inspiration. The food and service was good, however, I wouldn’t classify it as exceptional. From what I can tell, this may be a bit over-rated.
