Ate lunch on July 3rd – just walked in and was seated immediately. Was served an initial bread basket. The breads were very nice and fresh. There were three breads, French baguette, Irish soda bread, and small corn muffins.Ordered an Artichoke, Flat-iron Steak with a a wine Reduction Demi-glaze, French Onion Soup, and a Banh Mi sandwich. The artichoke was delightful. Didn’t care too much for the Clarified Butter or the Raspberry Vinaigrette dips but the Lemon-caper Aioli was wonderful. The French Onion soup was good. I believe it may have had a bit of wine incorporated. The Vietnamese Roasted Pork sandwich was served on a baguette in the traditional style. Not surprisingly it too was great. The Flat-iron Steak with Wine-reduction Demi-glaze was good. The wine reduction by itself was not all that tasty but made a very tasty addition to the steak.

Father’s Day and my birthday fell on the same day, so I decided to treat myself to dinner at what I remembered was once a lovely restaurant. Reserved a table and when I arrived at 6:30, the Artichoke Cafe was already overcrowded and decidedly too warm for comfortable dining. The waiter was a bit loud and too folksy/familiar, and the persons serving bread bypassed me three times while offering bread to the customers on either side of my table. Finally caught my waiter’s attention and asked for bread if it weren’t too great an imposition. So he sent another waiter who–wait for it–once again offered bread to the the customers beside me. Finally, I asked if I were invisible and got some bread and an apology. The salad was merely okay, and the half rack of lamb was fine, though the vegetables barely deserved mention. Thus I found the food overpriced. I ordered two glasses of wine, a white and then a red ($8 and $10.50, respectively), which were passable, but because they were served from small decanters rather than the original bottles, I couldn’t be sure what I was actually being served. Didn’t bother ordering a desert, but instead asked for a decaf coffee. It turned out to be the best part of the meal. With the tip, the bill was over $80 for one person. This experience was hardly my idea of fine dining, and sadly I doubt I’ll ever return, certainly not to celebrate my birthday.

Went for a birthday dinner. I ordered the Rack of lamb. When my order arrives I notice that the chef was stingy with my portion. I probably got no more than 2 bites from my whole dish. MY WHOLE DISH! For that price, I was very disappointed.

Visiting from NY and stopped for lunch. Best food we had in New Mexico. Would recommend for lunch. Very attentive service as well.

Artichoke Cafe. My favorite restaurant in all of Albuquerque. I am a California foodie who moved to Valencia County, a food desert if there ever was one, and a friend took me to the Artichoke my first week in New Mexico. I have loved it ever since. I mostly get there for lunch only several times a year, but I always look forward to it. The evening menu is too expensive for me, but nevertheless a chicken sandwich with their to die for French fries and one of their mouth watering desserts is all to keep me happy, or the special crepe. Two words: Bahn Mi. Get it. Eat it . Love it!

Excellent all around. Calamari app was fresh, light, crispy and large portion that easily fed two. Garden salad was excellent, martini perfectly chilled and not dilute, and tenderloin was cooked to perfection. Service was impeccable by waitress and helper. I’m going back soon!
