I had the stuffed sopapilla on Jan 22 and it was excellent. I ate there about 10 years ago and it’s still good. I eat here every time I’m in Albuquerque.
Just OK, Not as I remember……. Situated in a strip mall that is ‘past its prime’ this neighborhood spot is not the place I remember from years gone by. First off, the prices are a bit steep for Mexican food. To start with the chips and salsa as an appetizer was just OK, or should I say the best part was was the chips. I would not be inclined to get it again. The red chile was decent but not my favorite, the enchiladas and rellenos were good but the rice was terrible! It was without flavor and worse yet it was gooey or mushy. The portions were substantial and the service was good.
Waste of money. The person below is right, after a restaurant sells, the quality goes down. Over $20 for one of the worst meals ever.The relleno was 70% overcooked batter that had to be pealed off to get to the chile. Chips were cold and fairly tasteless. Nothing much good to say about the salsa. The enchilada was the only thing that was marginally acceptable. While it’s somewhat difficult for a restaurant to distinguish its beans and rice, Taco Sal has done so in spades! (but negatively) I will **NOT** return!!!!!
Lousy. This place used to be awesome. Since it got sold, the food quality has gone down to rock bottom. The food was terrible. What a shame. I used to love the place. I won’t be going back.
The real deal. We visited in 2011 and found the same great food and friendly atmosphere that we remembered from the 1969s. This is authentic Albuquerque with much better food and prices than Old Town. Don’t waste your time and money on the tourist trap of Old Town. On your way back from the Sandia Peak tram ride, stop for lunch at Taco Sal’s. You won’t be sorry!
