This is a hard one to rate. Cantina Food was excellent. We had a wedge salad with blue crab, lobster tacos and a margarita pie. One of the best wedges weve had. Margaritas and specialty drinks were very good. The surroundings are a design feast. The sunset view of the Organ Mountains has to be the best. Very busy with travelers and locals. Friday and Saturday they have live music at the pool or upstairs deckSo what makes it hard is we felt like we were in Scottsdale or even a Aspen snooty hotel bar. Very upscale, Not Mesilla and certainty not Las Cruces. So, it is certainly different and may seem a bit pricey for locals. Different is good…right?Since this is owned and run by the owners of La Posta, it is going to be an establishment. chilltravelers.com
NICE ATMOSPHERE, GOOD SERVICE….AND THE DISH I ORDERED WAS EXCELLENT!The Hacienda replaced the Meson de Mesilla in 2017. The business is now owned and operated by the folks who run La Posta (although the concept and the cuisine are quite different than at La Posta). The new owners did not make significant changes to the decor when they set up shop as the Hacienda. The place remains attractive and comfortable if nothing spectacular. The ambiance is fine for either casual or special occasion dining. The owner of Meson de Mesilla seemed to fall short in the service end of the business, but the service I encountered at the Hacienda was just fine….not reaching the top levls of professionalism, but just fine. No complaints. The food served here is an eclectic mix of Mexican, Southwestern, and traditional American food. Judging from the quality, plating, and overall design of my food I would say they have an accomplished professional chef back there in the kitchen. The food served here is somewhat expensive; somewhat upscale and priced accordingly. Dinner prices are not too bad but lunch prices seem to be in the $12.00 to $20.00 range.I ordered the BLUE CRAB-BLUE CORN GREEN CHILE ENCHILADAS and the presentation was outstanding. The blue corn enchiladas were stuffed and covered with shrimp and crab meat and it was all covered by a green chile sauce. The enchiladas were topped with two large grilled shrimp. On the side was their Mexican corn casserole, black beans, and their signature slaw. The slaw was not mayonnaide based; mostly shredded cabbage and carrots. It was nothing special but the corn was outstanding and the black beans were the tastiest black beans I’ve ever had. The enchiladas were very good. The combination really worked and THESE ENCHILADAS WERE SOME OF THE BEST I’VE EVER EATEN. DELICIOUS.What to expect if you go: A clean, comfortable place with a nice….if less than impressive ambiance, above average service, above averge pricing, a creative menu, and, judging by the food I enjoyed, high quality cuisine. A bit pricey and not a perfect restaurant…but the food I had was excellent.Restaurant rating = FOUR-AND-A-QUARTER to FOUR-AND-A-HALF STARS…..meaning, a high quality dining experience to be had.
