Great food, but the wine selection is abysmal. The food is great. The atmosphere is great. The weird sandwich rocks. The beers are great! The wine selection is sad. It’s not right. Beer enthusiasts have wine enthusiasts for friends. PLEASE get a few good white and red wines. (NOT from New Mexico. I’m all about supporting NM growers and businesses, but NM wine is just not good.)
Worst customer service I have ever had in a bar in Nob hill. My friends drink stayed empty for over 15 min, after I asked for another the bartender was rude. After she served the drink she rudely informed us we wouldn’t be served again for 30 min.
My first trip here was very enjoyable. I was with a regular and we had nice service. Maybe the fact I was with a REGULAR is the reason for the nice service. Second time around my girlfriend and I walked in around 10:40 pm on a Sunday night to have a specific entree I had previously. We were greeted by a bartender and an empty dining room. I told her we would like to sit outside and she said we could sit where ever. We walked to the smoking patio and sat at a both. I looked at my watch because I knew the kitchen was closing at 11. It was 10:42. As we sat I saw a short tan waitress with dark hair come sit, with what appeared to be her friends, and gab for a minute before asking if they wanted their check separated. She then walked inside to split the checks without even acknowledging us. No problem, she’ll be back. She returned with the checks in her hand, handed them out, then stood there and waited for the appropriate tender. She then took the checks back inside without an acknowledgment to us! I thought for sure she would come by after running the cards or whatever but she didn’t. We sat for five minutes out there, with time running out to get food (that we drove from the west side SPECIFICALLY for), without notice from the staff. We eventually went to the bar and ordered our food. It was great like I anticipated but I can’t say that I’d be back just for that. Horrible service.
Bad service , they have a bad cook and bad old frozen food , extreme bad service and weird individuals
The food sucks. But, the service is good and so is the beer selection. And the patio is nice.
O’Niell’s has been a Nob Hill fixture for a decade. They moved east a few years ago and established an entirely new tradition of good food and great drinks. The bar has a tremendous selection and there are many craft beers on tap. The menu is extensive and the portions generous. There’s a large outdoor patio that has a dog-friendly section.
I absolutely love this place. I’m a bar seater only, so I don’t know about their waitstaff. But their bartends know me by name. Their burgers and sandwiches are great. Good atmosphere after a long hard day at work. Drinks are mixed to perfection IMO (I’m a bourbon & scotch drinker). I’m not sure what’s given this place such a low rating, but I’m betting on the waitstaff as the source.
