Fun & TastySan Marcos Caf was hopping at brunch time on a Sunday morning when we stopped in. They were able to squeeze us in, which was appreciated. There was a fun and festive buzz about the place. We had a nice, late breakfast and everything was real good. We enjoyed their famous cinnamon rolls which are more like croissant batter rolled up and stuffed inside a muffin wrapper. The chicken sausage was tasty and the toast that comes with breakfast was real good. The coffee was strong and poured regularly.A guitar-playing singer set up and added to the already great atmosphere.

Just as good as ever. Almost didn’t go back because of the last bad review. So glad we ignored that. The runner messed up our drink order – my Spanish was as bad as his English – but the server got everything straightened out quickly. She was very helpful and very friendly. The green chile chicken stew was the creamy version and flavorful. The biscuits and gravy came in a big bowl with the biscuits bathed in a brown, sausage-rich gravy not at all like the common library paste kind. The chicken enchiladas were spicy with a rich chile verde and melted cheese. Posole and beans on the side ok. Definitely worth the drive.12 Jan, 2010The kids like all the animals but their folks like all the great choices of Southwestern food, and the creative specials are always amazing way out in the country.

2nd time, still just as bad. Had breakfast at San Marcos cafe this morning. The service is slow; after I asked for utensils, I had to get up & get my own. They got my order wrong twice & the food is overpriced and marginal at best. The only good part of the meal was the potaoes. Never again.

Gotta love the peacocks!. The San Marcos Cafe is situated on the Turquoise Trail between Santa Fe and Madrid and it delightfully blends eclectic aspects of both. After an awesome meal (everything I have had is excellent), take some time to wander around the north side where peacocks and turkeys roam freely. The birds are very used to people and not aggressive at all. If you have some more time, wander on down the trail to Madrid and savor its quite eccentric charms. Back to the point of this review, you will fall in love with the staff as well as the food. It’s one of my favorite places in the world.

Outstanding food although a bit pricey; however the warmth of the lady owner and the cute ambience were worth the drive from Santa Fe. Two cinnamon rolls, two heuvos rancheros and two coffees set us back $36 plus tip. Alternative choice would be Tecolte Cafe on Cerrillos.
