Keep an eye out for the colorful mural so you don’t miss this scrumptious stop on the High Road to Taos. You’ll be hard pressed to choose between savory dishes, healthy salads, and some of the best bakery items you’ve ever tasted. This farm-to-table restaurant is run by two women: one a chef and one a baker. Sunday brunch is a delight. It’s the perfect spot for coffee and a bite while browsing galleries and enjoying the tiny villages on the High Road. Be warned, however: it’s very small and very popular, so you might have to wait. And since everything’s handmade, they sometimes run out. But it’s definitely worth your while. (Some of the best carrot cake I’ve ever tasted!)

Is that a Way to Treat a Customer?Sugar Nymphs Bistro is waaaay out it he middle of nowhere. We planned a late lunch stop there on our way between Taos and Santa Fe. I had checked their website and it said that they were open for lunch until 3:00pm starting on July 5 (about 2 weeks before our visit. We got there at 2:35pm and a lot of tables were filled. As we went into the dining room we saw a sign on the door that said open until 2:30pm. So I asked the only staff person around if we could get a light lunch. She said No, we are closed. And that was that. I went back to the car to check i-Pad for the website and confirmed that it said that the restaurant closes at 3:00pm. I returned and told the same staffer about the 3pm time stated on the website and she said I dont know about that, but we are closed.Wow, what compassion for folks that way out there for lunch. We would have been happy with coffee and dessert and we would have probably been on our way before lots of the other folks eating in the dining room. We were allowed to buy a to-go cup of coffee which we passed on.

Sunday Brunch Delight. This little bistro was absolutely adorable. Stopped here on the high road from Santa Fe to Taos. There was a wait for a table, but time seemed to slow down here. There wasn’t a rush and everyone, including myself, liked it that way. We enjoyed the crab cake salad and veggie breakfast scramble. The fresh, tasty crab cakes were on a bed of risotto and greens with a tasty dressing. The biscuit and potatoes with the scramble were perfect, plus everyone received tiny peach pastries before your meal. As most places in Taos, everything was organic, local and made right there. If you have an hour or two to spare, make sure to stop by…and don’t forget a piece of cake for the road!

Scones drew me in. To start this stub of a review, I’ll say that I knew of many recommendations for this spot long before I arrived. I had another meal planned so I escaped with a ginger-ade (delicious) and a warm scone. Little did I know that normally the scones are served with meals and not sold individually, but hey, I paid them some money and I received THE BEST SCONE I HAVE EVER EATEN. So I guess it was a good deal. 🙂
