I’m really befuddled by this place. I left happy, so that’s all that matters. You walk in, see dog food, cleaning supplies, human foods…then a counter. Fresh empanadas sitting on a tray. A woman hard at work in the back. Waiting, waiting… hello, what do you want? Two breakfast burritos and a cherry empanada please! She was standoffish at first, but then was extremely friendly and pleasant afterward. Breakfast burrito was stuffed full of potatoes, eggs, sausage, and with optional hot salsa. Delicious! Definitely true to their claim to fame – the local’s favorite breakfast burrito. Will I return? Yes, because it’s convenient to Seco. And it was fast. Daunting, strange place, but good burrito!
Fantastic home cooked New Mexican cuisine. A tiny place in the small town of Arryo Seco, on the way to the Taos Ski Area. The restaurant has an interesting history. The owner and cook, Lena’s, father started working there in the 1940s, and eventually bought it it. It is a unassuming place where you order at the counter. Lena makes the most amazing tamales I have ever tasted. Light and moist, they are filled with either chicken or beef and smothered in red or green chile sauce. The plate came with rice and beans, which were also delicious and seasoned perfectly. My dining companion had rolled tacos, stuffed with chicken and topped with guacamole. It is definitely worth stopping here and Arryo Seco is a delightful tiny town to visit.
