Accommodating Folks, Who Know How to Cook. This must be a tough gig–serving Italian food in the heart of a Southwestern cuisine epicenter. Stella’s Italian Restaurant pulls it off with aplomb and grace, not to mention, really good food. Recommended to us by a local bartender at a nearby haunt, SIR was the perfect temporary Mediterranean transition from the many otherwise delicious Southwestern meals. Frankly, we wanted something different. The owner was very helpful and suggested the perfectly balanced and executed portobello soup. A wondrous cross between a mushroom stew and a minestrone broth, this soup is loaded with vegetables, mushrooms and deep flavor–oregano, garlic, rich tomato and the earthy goodness of slow simmering, all shine through. The appetizer was an equally impressive round of large shrimp scampi, doused with an olive oil and garlic marinade, and sided with a bright, red chili dipping marinara. Tender, aromatic and quite satisfying, these shrimp were tremendous. The accompanying greens, radicchio, and baby spinach salad dressed with an amazing balsamic vinaigrette and topped with hearty eggplant medallions, then dotted with fresh buffalo mozzarella, make this now main course salad, a substantially satisfying meal. Every ingredient was fresh–a happily recurring theme in this town–and seasoned well so that this dish was excellent and memorable. Plus, I was really hungry. So, there’s that. The location is interesting, and the prices are fair. You can’t go wrong here.

Very good food and nice live mood music for a great atmosphere. Eggplant parmigiana was excellent. Had some great New Mexico wine as well.

Incredible Surprise!. Amazing find! I wish I would be able to eat here again. My husband and I split the trout salad and Stella’s Pizza. Reasonably priced and expectational food.

Rude!!. We can in with our 3 kids and they were so rude about it. Our kids were totally calm and the man told us if we wanted to eat here they needed to calm down. We walked right out. Don’t take your kids here or do and make sure they are on their worst behavior 🙂

Not a lot of good things to say.. First of all the waitress eavesdrops on your conversations and makes comments when she comes around based on what you were talking about. Aaand the food sucks. Their marinara sauce is very watery and the vegetables in my entree were barely cooked at all. Flavorless, expensive dishes. I would not recommend this restaurant.
