I love the food at macs steak in the rough, but waiting at the drive in for 25 minutes for a simple fried food order, and then another 5 minutes for my change which the server should have had on him… Is a bit ridiculous!!
I would like to know why the start charging extra for gravy when they use to give it with your steak fingers. What’s next charge for ketchup!! Any thing to make a buck…….
Great drive in for a classic New Mexico favorite. They have great steak fingers and you always have to have a taquita tusum. Biggest problem is Mac needs to realize how over priced his food is. A meal for one: steak fingers 6.99 + gravy 1.19 + taquita tusum 2.79 + med drink 1.99 = 12.66 which for a drive in is OVER PRICED!!!!
20 years ago. The last time i lived in Albuquerque Mac was still good the steak in the rough (Always ordered with double meat) was tasty spiced nicely and supple meat but the ownership has changed since then and as I remember Mac’s old ownership was very hands on quality concerned my brother moved back there recently and the subject has come up and he said they now taste bad which is a disappointment what’s next lota burger goes bad? no! Best Lota burger order is double meat double cheese green chille is hurricanes still there disaster burritos with extra cheese and crispy fries man it is no wonder I hae heart disease I grew up on all this crap
Macs is awesome ive been eating their food for the past 15 years! I am disappointed their famous taquitas do not taste the same in the last year.hope more ppl notice and complain maybe they will turn it around!!
Don’t waste your money or time. Had been going to Mac’s on Lomas since the 60’s and stopped about 10 years ago when food taste and quality declined. I was really excited that they had a remodel and hoped for a fresh start with new fryers, new staff and such.Gave them two chances this week – 1st their steak in the rough – steak was too pepperly and chewy. Slaw just tasted like cabbage – threw it away. Green onion was half wilted and brown in places.Decided to try their tacos and taquitos today, as they were my favorites back in the 60’s, 70’s. Waited in line for 15 minutes. Then waited for another 20 for my order, all the customers were complaining and unhappy. But that’s not all.We ordered 4 Taquita 2-somes and 4 tacos for carry out – we got 2 taquita 2-somes, fries, hamberger and cheese burger. The taquita were way over done burned on the ends and chewy in the middle. The quacamole that comes with the 2-some was starting to turn brown and tastless with one big chunk of lettuce on one and two little whisps of lettuce on the other.. Lunch was $18 and most of it went into the trash. Can’t use the three-strike rule here, two is plenty. Too bad too, because I really want local businesses to succeed.
Good Food, if you have the time. I’ve been going to Macs for over 10 years. They have my favorite onion rings and tacos. Over the last decade, their food quality has been dropping while the prices were pretty high. I was delighted when they did the remodel and figured that they would fix all the problems they had before and return to the glory days of old. Unfortunately the remodel has left me disappointed. The dining area is much larger, but I have to wear a jacket all the time because they keep it so cold. The food prices are still really high for what you get. The service is also horrendously slow. The staff themselves are all very friendly, but I’ve decided that this place is simply not a quick lunch destination. Last time it took me 30 minutes between the time of pulling in and getting my food. I’ve tried the drive-through, car-hop, and the dining area; they all seem to take the same amount of time. The food itself is either a hit or miss. Either the food is really good, or it is really bad. Last time I went, the onion rings were half cooked and tasted like flour paste. The time before that, they were burnt to the point where I couldn’t even eat them. I had tried the fish sandwich one day and the fish looked and tasted raw. About the only thing that appears to be consistent are their tacos.I am still a big fan, but until they can improve their consistency and turn-over times, I doubt I will be going back very often.
