This place is a Jewish and Japanese love story. Something fun and different, we enjoyed all our dishes, service was lovely and we would definitely come again for more fusion! What we had -Grilled asparagus, marinated mushrooms, asparagus-miso puree, popped kasha, bottarga: Lovely little vege dish, the popped buckwheat added a nutty roasted flavour and fun texture.Tuna tataki, black tahini: Lovely seared tuna dish with red onion petals, broccolini, topped with saffron threads and of course, that black sesame sauce. Interesting to have that recognisable black sesame flavour – usually reserved for desserts like tong yuan/mochi fillings, as part of a savoury dish – it still offered that strong flavour plus a bit of sweetness. Grilled wagyu tongue salad, gobo, suzuki greens, radish: Guessing ingredients in relationship to their Japanese names is fun. Gobo – burdock root were fried batons, thinly sliced watermelon radish. There could have been more pieces of tongue I feel, and they didn’t have that ‘chompy’ texture which I like with tongue, texture was just regular beef – probably because it was very thinly sliced. Tasty. Really wanted the okonomi-latke but that was a passover special when we went, so we got the okonomiyaki with pastrami, sauerkraut and bonito. Intensely flavourful, and good for sharing else the combined tang from the sauces and the sauerkraut may overwhelm you. It works! Was not as salty as I imagined, but it was a bit too tangy for my liking. Teriyaki duck wings: Sticky and hot, these teriyaki wings beg to be picked up with hands to eat. Strong sweet sauce, meaty duck, very tasty. We had one of the specials on that day – grilled and tempura bamboo hearts with a ponzu dipping sauce. Yum!Mochi blintzes with chocolate and vanilla ice cream, adzuki beans, blueberry compote: Like ice cream mochi – literally ice cream wrapped in a chewy mochi skin. Lovely sauce. Would probably be yummier if the ice cream flavours were more Japanese. Cherry blossom panna cotta: I didn’t notice a sakura flavour in the panna cotta itself but it was nice and smooth. The menu didn’t mention it but it came with a macerated cherry sauce that was so alcoholic (to me because I can’t stand the flavour), it was fizzy! All up we enjoyed the food, it was interesting and cute and tasty!
