Best Italian place I’ve ever been to! Their sauce is amazing and the spaghetti Parmesan is a must-have! I come here every time I’m in town. They’re usually pretty busy but it’s worth it.
In the interest of full disclosure, I got take out from Chef’s (take out at any restaurant is always somewhat different than eating in the restaurant). Given this, the food was fine but nothing I couldn’t replicate at home. I got the Penne Special with some meatballs on this side and tiramisu. The meatballs were ok but the sauce was weirdly sweet. The Penne dish was a bit oily and nothing spectacular. Tasty enough though. The bread is homemade and good, but again a strange sweet finish. The tiramisu had a strong alcohol flavor from the ladyfingers. I may try again and eat in just to see if there is a difference.
Not an Italian restaurant more of an American eatery. Perhaps when it opened in 1923 the founders great grand parents may have come over with Columbus, but now it’s just highly over priced cafeteria pasta you could get at a local high-school. The glassed in open view kitchen is a nice touch, but just illustrates this place is all about speed and nothing more. They basically have dozens of versions of the same dish, variations of pasta, cheese, veal parm with overly sweetened sauce. The calamari the worst I have ever had, I could buy a box of frozen and do better job myself at home. What self respecting Italian restaurant doesn’t have a seafood pasta? Their house special plain pasta with plain sauce with tons of melted cheese on top. Again, I could do this myself for less than $140 for 4 people, We just had lunch, no deserts, no alcohol, included tax & tips. The service was lacking friendliness and personality, just get your money in and you out as efficiently as possible.
Went to Chef’s on a Saturday night when there were many large reservations. Service was great, waitress busted her butt and accommodated to our needs when she didn’t have to. Not to mention the food was amazing. I tried the chicken parm, eggplant parm, the stuffed shells and the fettuccini Alfredo and they all were fantastic. I want to go there again very soon!!
There’s nothing wrong with the food here but I can make ALL of the menu choices at home and most of them would be much better. Much, much better. If we were asked to go back to Chef’s as someone’s guest, we would say yes & enjoy our time w/ our friends, if not the meal!
Chef’s restaurant review. The food was high quality and the lunch portion was huge. The wait staff was very friendly too. I will visit again.Elaine F.
Outstanding! Live the Sabres memorabilia as well. Spaghetti was great too.
