Xmas eve dinner disaster. On xmas eve we decided to go to Olivers for a pleasant meal and celebrate xmas eve, just lost my mother a few days before and thought this would be a good experience. Unfortunately it was by far the worst meal I have ever had , one which could not be eaten. I order the bisque soup which was burnt and smelled like a rubber tire and tasted the same, did not eat it, I ordered the veal chop and it looked like something covered in lard it was awful. I asked the waitress if she would eat this and responded by saying NO WAY, the hostess came over and took one look and said this should have never left the kitchen, she also apologized more than I can say for the owner who never showed himself. They offer us another entre of which I refused and instead gave us a 50 dollar gift certificate which was still short of the price of the veal chop. My wife ordered chicken and could not figure out what it was and this too was not eaten, however she said nothing to me until later because of me being upset. I paid 94 dollars for food we did not eat and a glass of wine and gave the waitress 30 dollars for her trouble. Anyone interested in a gift certificate please let me know.RJ Spasiano
Concerned…. Consistently one of the all-time great restaurants in Buffalo, NY and the proving ground for this city’s best chefs. The place where people actually dress well and expect a great overall cocktail, food, wine and knowledgeable service experience. However…after my last couple of visits and feedback from other established customers–fearing the new ownership is on the verge of dumbing things down. No dress code in effect…a draft beer taps added…and a burger on the latest menu. Following a recent black tie affair, we went there for a night cap to find a guy in shorts, sneakers, and a polo shirt at the bar…along with other noted items. Representing the 30’s, 40’s, and 50’s crowd that have come to expect upscale at Oliver’s–this is really sad.Apparently, you can’t take the pub out of a former pub owner. Step up to the plate man! Dare to be truly upscale in Buffalo and carry on a great tradition as you should! Here’s hoping they listen.
Best dinner ever! My husband and I recently visited Oliver’s for our anniversary. The food was incredible, warm atmosphere and the service was top-notch. Our server, Jake was attentive and made us feel very welcome. We definitely be going back!
Fantastic Restaurant. We made a reservation to dine at Oliver’s while on a short trip to Buffalo. My wife had read great reviews, and were not disappointed. Every aspect of the dining experience was exceptional. Every member of the staff was very friendly, with helpful recommendations on drinks, plates, and deserts. The atmosphere was very comfortable and well decorated. Most importantly, the food was outstanding – I enjoyed their lobster and scallop special (highly recommended if it’s available), and my wife had a delicious rabbit dish (something we enjoy, but not often found in the States). The wine list is extensive and, in my opinion, reasonably priced – it also includes point listings for several wines to aid your decision. I recommend going on a Sunday as their wine bottles are half price with the purchase of an entree! If I lived in the Buffalo area, I’d be eating at Oliver’s every weekend!
Always Solid. Among my favorite restaurants in the city. Walking in and you travel back through time. Amazing bartenders, warm comfortable space. Food is always exceptionally solid. Well worth the price of admission.
Amazing!. One of my favorite restaurants in Buffalo, it never fails to impress. Makes me feel like I’m being transported back to the glory days of the Queen city with its nostalgic, slightly art deco feel. The service is always top notch and my filet or pasta is always superior to other elite restaurants in the area. If they reinstated the dress code, I think I could rank this as the best restaurant in WNY.
Very pleased. It was our first visit to Oliver’s for my date and i. I really enjoyed the art deco interior. my date and i were in the semi-circle booths which made us feel cozy and as if it was early 1940s. the food overall was great. as an appetizer we shared crab cakes. those were good, but nothing I’d come there special for. for the entree, he had the ny strip and i, the filet mignon, both of us were pleased. for dessert i had the sorbet which was out of this world! very fresh and not too sweet. the chocolate cake he had was rather dry, we both agreed. most importantly, the service was outstanding. we have had a bad run as far as restaurant service the past 6 months, and we are not hard to please by any means. but lately, every server has been just plain sullen, rude, or acted like they were doing us a favor by showing up to take our order. Patrick at Oliver’s however, left us both impressed. i don’t mind spending close to $200 for a nice dinner sometimes if the food is great and the service is even better. he made it worth every penny. we will be back.
