The end of September this year (2016), my wife and I were returning from Niagara, NY to home in Pittsburgh, PA, it came time for fuel and food. Our first turn off I 90 led us to Barcelona, NY on Lake Erie and a wonderful old light house. (another review) But, no good food or fuel places. We hailed some locals and crossed over I 90 to the little town of Westfield, NY. A very charming small town and very near the Welch’s Grape Juice {National?} headquarters. Very much like the small town I where grew up in Michigan, we met a gentleman at the Mobil gas station that suggested a wonderful diner about seven miles out of town, but right on our way back to the ‘Burgh!!As we walked in I felt like I was transported back in time to Michigan in the seventies!!! The ambiance of the classic ‘home town’ diner was obvious as patrons near us shared recipes and preferences with the staff on the foods they loved. I had a sense that there may have been a transition recently in ownership, but there was only joy and acceptance from the conversations around us if this is true.We started with one of my favorites; real chocolate malted milk shakes brought to you in the metal mixing container. I was ecstatic and knew exactly what I needed to do. When delivered in this way it is helpful to harvest into the vessel the malted powder that invariably collects on the sides, undissolved and yet to be delivered to the wonderful real ice cream delight from my youth! I was so happy! My wife loves egg salad sandwiches and her’s was found to be excellent by her comments. I had the Broccoli cheese soup which was very creamy, cheesy and had perfectly tender broccoli chunks. I followed with a very fresh house side salad with a nice selection of vegetables and awesome home-made bleu cheese dressing. They have a pie board that lists 20 or more fresh made home-made pies! I chose the Strawberry-Rhubarb after much tough deliberation. I am a fan and this is an excellent choice should you be at Meeder’s. But really, if there is a pie that you like, I am confident that you will love their version!!!A sign was seen on a diner wall a long time ago in another place: Our waitresses aren’t fast, our waitresses aren’t slow, they are half-fast. Which is true here, because they take time to listen to you, your order and your input. If you like REAL food, small home town atmosphere and great eats, stop here when near!!!

What can I say. Chicken pot pie was on the special’s menu, and what came to the table was Marie Callender’s. The seafood platter was full of grease and also straight out of the frozen section of your local grocery store. Don’t waste your money here.
