Leave the cannoli, Take the gun.. I’ve only been to Caruso’s once; perhaps that’s not enough to found a solid dislike but it seems to be for me. I didn’t care for the atmosphere of the place and the food left just as much to be desired. The cannoli weren’t anything to brag about and the chocolate gelato was absolutely terribly; like eating frozen Yoohoo. It was freezer burnt, ice crystallized, chocolate Italian ice instead of the delicious, creamy, rich, Italian custard gelato is supposed to be.Caruso’s Cafe does have one thing going for it. They are open on Tuesdays when Florentine’s, just down the street, is not open!Check out Florentine’s!

One Word…Yum.. I currently live in South Philadelphia, home to many Italian pastry shops. However, whenever my family comes to visit from Utica, NY, I insist they bring an Italian Rum Cake from Florentine bakery. As far as I am concerned, Florentine’s rum cake is the best. Their cannoli and pastichiotti (pustys) are top notch too!

Wonderful Italian Pastry. This business has been around for at least 40 years. I grew up and across on their offerings. The staff is friendly, the prices are agreeable, the offerings are delicious. Cookies, pasties, cannoli. When I was living in the Mohawk Valley, I alternated between this cafe and their competitor a half block away. Visit both. The neighborhood is a far cry from what it was forty years ago, but on Sunday morning it is still a hangout for the Italian seniors in for cookies and coffee after church.
