  • Great Beer Now!

Visiting breweries is a regular part of life for me and when you visit a brewery, you also need to eat. Some breweries serve their own food, while others leave the food service to nearby establishments. A good example of the latter is FX Matt Brewery and this restaurant, Celtic Harp, located directly across the street.I was on a recent beer and brewery tour of Central New York in support of my beer blog, Great Beer Now, and after concluding a visit to the FX Matt Brewery, I made my way across the street to Celtic Harp. I had not heard of this restaurant previously and had not done any research. But it looked like a cool place and you couldnt beat the location, at least for me. It was right there, across the street, so I didnt have to do anything expect walk on over and make my way inside. Celtic Harp is an Irish- themed bar and the atmosphere is very chill, with a large bar, tabled seating, and two levels. Sports are almost always showing on the many televisions and there are some small photos adorning the walls. The atmosphere is about the way you would expect for a pub and it is certainly comfortable.Moving to the food, Celtic Harp specializes in pub items like appetizers, burgers, wings, sandwiches, etc, and as one would expect in an Irish themed pub, they also serve Irish options like corned beef and Shepherds Pie. The full bar has multiple specialty drink options, classic cocktails, and a wide assortment of beer. I ordered the Philly Steak and Fries when I visited and found it very good overall. The hoagie roll it was served on was a little on the chewy side, but it was still quite tasty and just what my stomach needed after touring FX Matt.Celtic Harp can get quit crowded when there is live music playing outdoors at the brewery, so I recommend visiting during quieter days and times so that you can enjoy a good pub meal and drink in an Irish/sports setting. Its a cool place for food and drink and it makes an excellent choice for a visit after a tour of the massive FX Matt Brewery. greatbeernow.com

Very Nice. Having read the previous reviews, I am a little perplexed, but, took a party of 12 there (ranging from 19 – 80 years of age) for my wife’s birthday Sat. night and was VERY pleased. While service was not fast. the atmosphere and the food were VERY good. We were upstairs and had but one server, but he worked hard to handle any request. we had. Guinness Stew and Corned Beef and Cabbage garnered excellent feedback and Shepherd’s Pie, while a bit heavy on potato topping, was good. Since we were a bit removed from main bar area, can’t really comment on what happens downstairs, but all of our guests agreed, they would gladly eat there again. I’ve had better and worse Irish food in other cities, but the Celtic Harp definitely gets a thumbs up from me.

Well I herd awful things about this place from just about everyone. But one night I got talked into trying it. Well the food was terrible even for bar food. The staff that worked there all looked like they hadn’t slept in months or were cronic drug users. Then later that night I herd commotions of a man beating a woman out front for starting something in the bar. Turns out it was the owner. Later I found out that this sort of thing happens frequently there, and the owner is usually involved. Later I learned that the owner has also been picked up for beating his wife, and that the bar is know for drug traffic. So my advice is take your business somewhere else safe.

Best Pub In Mohawk Valley. I have been there on 3 occasions so far after hearing a lot of good things about The Celtic Harp. I’ve been happy every time. It can take a bit of time to get your food, even at slow times, depending on your order. However, I’ve always found it to be worth the wait. Their Black & Tan Onion Rings are quite good and they have some of the best fries in the area, perhaps second only to those at Packy’s Pub in Washington Mills. On a cold day or if you are exceptionally hungry, their Shepard’s Pie is excellent. They use tender, perfectly seasoned pot roast rather than just ground beef, sweet corn, and other vegetables under a hearty layer of mashed potatoes. It is then topped with a generous layer of melted cheddar cheese. It’s the best I’ve had, not that I’m a Shepard’s Pie connoisseur; thought I’ve never heard of putting pie crust on top, it’s not a pot pie.Their Reuben was quite disappointing, I will note. There was not enough corned beef or 1000 Island Dressing and the bread was too toasted. However, I do highly recommend their Banger Burger. I’ve had sausage on a hamburger before but never enjoyed it so much. The Guinness caramelized onions were sweet, the banger was very good, and the burger was cooked to the exact doneness I asked for. It hit the spot, was filling enough, and was at a fair price.Don’t forget to wash down your meal with a nice cold, perfectly poured pint of Guinness … or two (if you are old enough)!

Resturant Opinion. I really enjoy this resturant, they have a great atmosphere, good irish music, not to mention their food is amazing, I nothing but good things to say about the meal i had, which consisted of Brent’s Dublin Dippers, Grilled Ruben, and Irish Creme Mousse Cake, deffinately a taste to keep me going back for more & is my personal #1 favorite resturant after having been there.
